Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but Tuesday, October 4th is the seventh anniversary of Brady Deaton’s debut as Chancellor of the University of Missouri. It is also the date on which Deaton must make the most important decision of his seven years as Chancellor. Tomorrow Deaton will tell the Missouri Board of Curators whether the Tigers should remain proud members of the Big 12, or become the newest member of the Southeastern Conference.

Missouri will stay in the Big 12 Conference because staying in the Big 12 Conference is the easy thing to do. Staying in the Big 12 Conference is the comfortable thing to do. Staying in the Big 12 Conference allows Chancellor Deaton to avoid looking like the bad guy who kicked an already down Big 12.
