ETA - I'm heading back to Pleasant Grove in about a month. I'll update this in just a bit on things still needed.

________________________________________________
I'm heading to the Birmingham area May 13th-15th to help with the cleanup. We'll be heading around the north side to help out those affected by the storm, looking to help out how we can, but more importantly deliver essential supplies to those in dire needs. If you've thought to yourself, "I want to help, but I've got other things that I need to take care of", now is your chance. Swing by a Sam's Club or somewhere else and stock up on water or pop top canned foods that I can deliver. Anything you want to contribute I'll take. If you want to offer time, money, uhauls, etc., let me know and I'll be sure to take pics to post on here so that you can see your effort making a difference in people's lives.

I'm graduating that weekend, but I'm more than willing to donate some supplies. Send me an email tigerterror1@gmail.com.

I'll ask around at my work for donations, and stop by a Sam's or Costco next weekend then meet up with you somewhere in Gwinnett.

Thanks for the pin. mmjones, shoot me an email at nftiger0781@gmail.com and we'll figure something out. I'll pick whatever you've got up at your work. tigerterror, I'll shoot you an email in just a little bit.

If anybody else wants to contact me, I'll leave my email up. nftiger0781@gmail.com

In addition to what I put earlier, my wife made a good suggestion last night that sunblock is another item that will be in great need.

Thanks guys!

I don't know if you are wanting to continue to ask for donations and take things to those in need but I have committed myself to going to Tuscaloosa every weekend possible for the next few months. I can help transport supplies and everything. Please let me know if you want to try to organize something together.

the closer this gets, let us know where you'll be. Lots of folks from B'ham here and we get pool stuff togethor and maybe all meet for pizza or something and make the most of a bad situation.

The little things matter in a situation like this. Being in Tuscaloosa this weekend - I have truly NEVER been more proud to be an Alabama fan...and a part of the South and the SEC - and America.

There were people from ALL over the nation in Tuscaloosa helping. Michigan - Texas - Maine - Maryland - California - the list goes on. I saw tons of LSU fans and Auburn fans in Tuscaloosa. It's overwhelming and couldn't be more appreciated.

Get your tetanus shots before you go, and carry your own basic first aid pack. It's going to be hot but you want long pants, long sleeves, heavy gloves, and boots. Heavy duty contractor clean up bags are in short supply just about everywhere. Find out where you are going and call ahead to see what supplies are most needed. Planning ahead and being self sufficient will go a long way. Be safe.

RC,

So far the best source for information has been on this local station that you can stream on your computer.

Relief Efforts Coordination

Call in and ask, or listen. They have spearheaded many collection points and organized many groups of volunteers. In some of the areas where my agency has been sending officers people are not allowed in certain areas unless they are with an organized group. (Pleasant Grove, Cordova for example)

Workers in clean-up/debris removal are advised to have a tetnus shot if they haven't had one in the last ten years.

They were saying folks who aren't locals will need to register to help now. This is due to scammers who've come in posing as FEMA and getting SS #'s, DL #'s and bank account #'s from vulnerable people right now, as well as looters.

You can call or visit the website and numbers listed below.

By calling 2-1-1 (in the state of Alabama or toll free 1-888-421-1266) or visiting www.servealabama.gov, individuals can register to volunteer or provide a financial donation to the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund.
