For a bit of lighheartedness in the midst of all the vitrol being thrown around here today, this is a pretty funny article, and it also shows just how hungry for breaking news some media outlets are.

Ben Leard now a source in the Newton saga.

quote:

Leard had a text message from Ryan Brown, a member of the WJOX radio show Roundtable. Brown wanted to know if it was true that Leard had claimed on Facebook to have attended an Auburn team meeting in which Newton admitted to having taken part in a pay-for-play scheme.

"My jaw hit the floor," Leard said.

The news spread like wildfire across blogs and social media and, "within three hours I had over 100 friend requests (on Facebook)," Leard said.

Of course, there was no such team meeting. So how exactly was Leard mistakenly thrust into the Newton saga? Blame it on brotherly love.

"(Two of my brothers) spoofed on the whole 'reliable source this, reliable source that'," Leard said. "My brother in San Diego puts on his Facebook page, 'I've got from the most reliable source that Cam Newton professed his guilt in a team meeting.' My brother in Atlanta said, 'my source is more reliable than your source and he confirms (the story).' Therefore, I'm the reliable source."
