His backup threw for almost 300 yards and 4 TDs so is it all talent or Petrinos system. Remember his success at Louisville. Brian Braun, the next superstar, bombed after P left.

Mostly the system, although not any QB can run it. Mallett is not a fundamentally sound QB.

after watching yesterday's game and petrino's track record at louisville, i'm starting to lean towards the system. arkansas does have good receivers and they never run the ball, so their passing stats are a little inflated. let's not forget how awful auburn's defense is as well

Wilson isnt as good as Mallett...and he played against possibly the worst defense he'll ever face...but yes the system helps out Petrino's QB's #'s a lot.

Largely system, but then again Mallett isn't exactly a talentless hack.

Every great QB gets recognized as truly great because the system they play in maximizes their strengths and minimizes their weaknesses.

Case in point, the successes of LSU QBs JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, and Matt Mauck, Texas' Colt McCoy, USC's Leinart, etc; while the struggles of Lee (2008 and a few games in 2009), Jefferson (2010 and a lot of 2009), etc.

Arkansas has mad receivers. I could throw to them.

we run a prostyle offense. We use lots of multiple sets and make the qbs read the defense. Wilson was a 4* qb that had tons of offers out of highschool, it isn't like he was some unheard prospect.

This.

Plus, Mallett is the real deal.

Yea, Wilson is good. Most Arkansas fans have talked about the depth we have had a QB over the last off season, but none really wanted to recognize it.

I have believe all along we will be a better team after Mallett leaves for the NFL.

Mallett is the real deal when he has time and is calm, but he's a headcase and scraps all fundamentals when things aren't going well.

Tyler Wilson was recruited by some big name coaches.

Saban, Weis, and Petrino to name a few.

No doubt the system inflates his numbers. Newton also benefits from the 'system' as well.

I like Mallett's arm, but I think he will struggle at times until he learns to cool down under pressure. I also think Newton will be killed in the pros with his style of play.

FWIW, I think Mallett goes pro this year and our offense is even better in 11 with Wilson running it.

It's both.

Petrino is very good at teaching QBs how to read defenses and find the defenses soft spots. He is also very good at calling plays that soften those spots even more.

As for Mallett his height and arm strength allows the offense to attack deeper soft spots. Thats what makes him so dangerous is his ability to make throws that 75% of college QBs can't make.

Mallett checks out of the plays called frequently.

Wilson is a fundamentally sound QB with a great arm. It could be that he just ran the plays as called and it worked. Except for those interceptions. But that is to be expected from a noob qb on the road in the SEC in his first ever big game experience.
