For 10 of past 12 years the SEC has either led or tied for the most players drafted into NFL. Surprised the Little 12 had such a low number after all the media hoopla last season. LINK GEAUX TIGERS!! Through Thick and Thin

Yeah, they had some huge numbers, as always. But if you look at the # drafted relative to the number of schools in conferences, the SEC is third, behind the Big East (1st) and PAC-10 (2nd).

All this after a "down year" where the national championship team (and most talented team) only had three drafted... Pretty scary how young this league is right now.

Given the level of talent in the SEC, this is the way it should be.

Barnhart breaks it down:

The SEC had eight first-round selections

The NFL still loves the ACC, SEC: As we told you last Friday, over the past five drafts before Saturday the SEC (191) and the ACC (176) have had more draft picks than any of the nine other Division I-A conferences. In Saturday’s first round the SEC had three of the first six picks, four of the top 12 and five of the top 18.

you sound like someone from Louisiana talking about how well our players do in the NFL when using per capita instead of totals!

Yeah, if a conference A has 20 schools and has 30 draft picks and confererence B has 10 schools and 28 draft picks. Totals do tell the tale. The SEC has 20% more teams than the PAC-10 and Big East.

PAC-10 (2nd).

I wonder if the LSU counted for the SEC when LSU had four 1st rounders and others drafted a couple years back.

Which just goes to prove that there is plenty of talent all over the map. Anyone who thinks we're going to waltz up to Washington and win on name alone is sorely mistaken. The Huskies have a big time qb and the trojan oc as their new coach. Anything less than A game could spell disaster for LSU. You should never open the season to a home dog.

Now I don't know if Washington had anyone drafted.

quote:That's a rather odd comment. I mean, anyone who thinks that Lyle Hitt is 9 1/2 feet tall would be sorely mistaken, too; but since no one has ever thought that, either, it makes about as little sense to mention it as people thinking we'll beat Washington "on name alone."
Anyone who thinks we're going to waltz up to Washington and win on name alone is sorely mistaken.
We are clearly better than usual Pac 10 teams; that's why we haven't lost to a Pac 10 team since the Carter Administration. And there is no reason for anyone to believe that this year's game against Washington will have any different result than the last 9 times we've played Pac 10 teams. That does not mean it will necessarily be easy like the last time we played Arizona or SC, and it does not mean it will necessarily be hard like the last time we played Arizona State or Oregon State.
But however we win, no one would ever think we would win that game (or any other game) "on name alone." That is why we pay coaches lots and lots of money to make sure we don't play games "on name alone."

Gawd damn, it's always a USC plebian that tries to make a case against the SEC.
It won't happen, but I hope your cheatin' arse football program gets close to making a Bowl vs a top tier SEC team this season.

So get a couple more teams, play a conference championship game, and then we can talk about apples.

thick and thin. why would any sports fan refer to a conference as great as the big 12 as the little 12. why so angry ? Is it necessary for you to destroy the big 12 for reasons of building up the image of the sec. not necessary, and your post is foolish and rediculous. ah I've got it "envy"

yea wildcat so do i. Usc is not a cheating program and never has been. There are questions but they have been answered and believe me we are no worse that schoools from other conferences. anyway why won't kentucky play usc, I'll tell you why because usc won't waste their time on such a program.
