And the left has demonstrated the ability to pull that extraordinary feat without total failure and collapse, in your view? Seems a bit out of their league from everything I’ve observed for several years now.

I don't think they're going to have a choice. They never wanted Biden in the first place. Obama's pic was Harris, but she was polling at less than 2% in December of 2019 when she dropped out of the primary race before a single vote was even cast. Harris's wildly unpopular, and the Obama's miscalculated by trying to have her involved.
They all knew that Biden was impossibly compromised, but with James clyburn's help in South Carolina he was the only candidate who could get some measure of traction.
