I have TMobile and it cost nothing under my plan for international service. Austria(twice), Paris and London cost nothing extra. I received a text as soon as my phone connected informing me of the terms of service for that country.

Right, I think it is free for the basic stuff but I usually upgrade to get the high speed data while there. It makes searching and traveling a little faster.
