Gotta admit, my only impression of Shreveport is traveling E->W along I-20 - not real favorable in appearance. I’m sure there are nicer looking areas away from the hwy.

There is basically nothing nice along the I 20 stretch. The part along I20 in the west part of Shreveport used to be nice middle class but is now ghetto. You have to go south of I 20 to find anything nice.

The city has big problems but it does offer a low cost of living and believe it or not you can actually use SOME of the public schools. There are some decent magnet elementary schools. Byrd high school is still good. Produces lots of preppy types who go on to LSU Greek scene and the med school in Shreveport usually has a fair contingent of Byrd alums. I wouldn’t send a kid of mine to Caddo magnet (even though it is good academically) just because it tends to be a weird artsy scene.

There are big issues with city governance and stuff but for the most part if you stick to yourself I think the chance of being the victim of violent crime isn’t super high. You would quickly figure out where not to go at night.
