If they would have done a few of things differently, it could have been a very good episode.

Completely get rid of Jar Jar and all of his people.

Anakin should have been about 12 or 13 and a better actor.

Don’t make the droid army so comic relief slapstick.

Mainly get rid of the silliness they put into it. There’s a little bit of silliness in every Star Wars episode. Empire definitely has the least amount of silliness in it. I wonder why people like it the best.

I actually like the trade federation plot. I don’t care if it’s boring. At least we get some kind of beginning to how the whole war started.

I have always felt that the “problems” with Episode 1 were that it put too much emphasis on marketing itself to children…or at least what Lucas thought children would like with “Little Ani” and Jar Jar.

The ironic thing is that when I saw Star Wars as a five year old child I was absolutely hooked with Luke Skywalker, Han, Chewy, Obi Won and Lea fighting against Darth Vader and Stormtroopers.

Lucas has said his goal was to target 12 year olds. A big problem for the prequels was the fanbase was older, so these silly films were reviled. But the truth is the OG films were also pretty silly. ESB being the least cheesy film.
