A nice watch is a great choice. Nothing trendy, something timeless that he will be able to wear now, and in the future.
A Tudor Black Bay is a fantastic choice. He can wear it on a rubber strap for starters and then move to leather or SS as he grows older.
A second choice, over a watch is a set of luggage and a trip. Since you are the only adult male in his life, I suggest you take it with him.
Costa Rica, Europe (Spain would be a great choice), Taiwan, or to whatever country is that he can use one of his 3 languages (other than English).
Make an opportunity to bond with him and let him enjoy being a Man without Mom looking over his shoulder.
