It was a blistering 40 minutes.

The priest seemed like he was in a rush to get it over with.

I had been looking forward to having some type of enriching experience.

I guess I’ll redirect my search for God inwardly.

Religion is just a system. God exists in people, not institutions.

Had some “sacramental” wine to pop at whatever Easter party he was invited to.

Like watching the finale of a TV series first and wondering what the big deal is. Some of the best masses I've been to are regular Saturday vigils. Keep showing up.

You just picked the wrong mass if you wanted longer. Easter vigil Saturday night is 2-1/2 hours long.

The one to go to at Easter is the vigil on the Saturday night before. We went last night. With the 9 readings, the epistle, the gospel, the blessing of the baptismal, acceptance of new folks, the homily, and the Eucharist it was a smooth 3.5 hours.

The answer lies within…not doing sitting/standing exercises and rituals at church for 45 minutes. I get more enriching experiences being in nature than a church.

Go to an Orthodox Easter (Pascha) mass. It will be a completely different experience. Make sure you're well rested and wearing some comfortable shoes.

He is busy man. He has 3 or 4 more to do today.

The Catholic Church is not like one of those nondenominational churches that have two mega services a week where the entire congregation meets together.

The Catholic Church service is like a Popeyes, you get the same rituals and readings at every church every across the world on rotation (That is menu items), the only difference is in how it is presented by individual priests (aka the attitude or enthusiasm of the workers).

Also don’t forget the priest is probably pretty miserable since he has never experienced the joy of sex, or it has been years since he has partaken in life’s guiltiest and simplest pleasures.

Perhaps he's tried and overwhelmed.

Perhaps you could offer him help and find enrichment that way.

OP -

Serious reply here. Going to Easter mass seeking an enriching service is a significant first step. Easter in the Catholic Church is the culmination of Holy Week, which includes lengthy and emotional services on Thursday, Friday & Saturday (the Easter Triduum). However, easter services on Sunday can be chaotic at times due to many factors (sugar-infused children, exhausted priests, crowded and multiple services, etc).

I hate that you had this experience, and I have been in your shoes before. My advice is do not give up. If you are indeed Catholic, go to confession and try to attend daily mass (even if it is for a few days). This may seem over the top, challenging (and to some maybe miserable), but this is how I reconnected with my faith and God. I found God's grace in confession when I realized I was not judged for the kind of man I used to be. I found God in communion and community. When I stopped looking at mass as entertainment (or lack thereof) and instead saw it as Jesus present with me in the oldest form of Christian ritual, I finally "got it." My experience was supernatural and full of love, which I still cannot explain today.

This board is full of people who do not find convenience in church, and that is fine. I used to be like that, too. I certainly do not judge because I felt the same way. Please keep trying.

If you're looking for a nice long Mass and spiritual connection, go to the Easter Vigil Mass. It's usually 2 hours.

Mine included Fire, Darkness, Light and some Latin. People were Baptized and anointed with oil. We all promised to reject Satan and his empty promises. Some babies were so emotional that they started crying.

As usual, Mass was packed with all you heathens who think going twice a year will get you into heaven.
