Would love to say hello. Pro tip: listen to the radio, especially news programs because of the pronunciation. Don't fall into the seductive trap of consuming English-speaking media all the time. When I came here there was one newspaper (Times Herald Tribune), and books in English were really expensive and I was broke. Luckily I got a job where everyone spoke German and that helped immensely, plus a course at the Volkshochschule. My German would be much better now had the internet - and my lack of discipline - not emerged when it did. I've been here a long time so I'm fluent, but it could be better. Good luck, I wouldn't want to learn German in Saxony, Bavarian was bad enough!

One last thing and I'll stop hijacking this thread: Don't wait too long to exchange your driver's license for a German one. I almost did and would have had to pay for the course and license - about 2000 Euros today. I'm pretty sure you have a year from the date you got your first resident permit.
