I’ve never bought the COs before but when their khaki shorts are on sale for $5 I go hog wild.

Maybe promotions are not based on merit.

When I was on Shore Patrol in Rota Spain in the early 70’s the security officer,a Commander, our boss was at a party probably 5 nights a week.
Apparently, his wife would go but leave early.

A unit would be dispatched to pick him up and bring him home.Sometimes it was at the O club, sometimes at a senior officers house.

One night I picked him up and asked him if he didn’t get tired of going to parties so many nights a week.
He said yes but “that’s how you get ahead in this man’s Navy”.

I didn’t say it but I I thought to myself,so promotions based on kissing arse, not job performance.
I was wavering on reenlisting, that was one the things that played in to my decision to get out.
I didn’t like the idea of my superior officers not being the most competent but the best arse kissers.
