Well I felt like they were holding me back the better I got at ball striking. They were more game improvement irons than player improvement, but labeled player improvement. I was having a lot of dispersion issues. For example, my stock 7 iron is 175ish-180 and i would catch some high on the face and it would go 200 yards and sail the green. It essentially was needed for more consistency and I’ve been trending close to the 3 hcp range. With the more pro style iron my consistency in numbers is 10x better. I was just sick of having flyers from the middle of the fairway. I’m still only 2 months in to the new irons, but it has been a game changer

My son has the same problem. He has P790's which were good when he was still learning and hitting more off center shots. Now he needs something more precise so he doesn't miss so many greens long because the ball rockets off of his club. One of the main reasons for this was his spin rate, with the club and shaft set up he had his 7 iron was producing around 4500rpm and the ball would sometimes rocket off the club face and be too long. He just got fitted for the Ping Blueprint S and the spin rate jumped to around 6500 with a higher ball flight and steeper decent which helps him hold more greens. His carry with the Blueprint S was 175 which is pretty good for a 130lb 17yo. The bad thing is is that those clubs are almost $1800 after the grip upgrade and tax and I just bought his 790's a little over a year ago. Thank God his driver is good, I don't want to fork out another $1000 for that. LOL

Thanks for the reply.
I have heard that the first generation of the 790's did have some hot spots on the face.
