Do you have underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage on your own insurance? If so, reach out to them. It will likely require opening a claim.

Doesn’t matter. You cannot have uninsured motorist property damage in Louisiana if you have comp and collision. It is literally not allowed.
Since he only has 1500 miles that means it likely has a loan - which means it’s mandatory for him to carry comp and collision.
He is going to have to claim it on his insurance.
