My son did the same thing when he was 12. He was a happy, funny kid who had lots of friends but he was the chubby one. We went to the beach and he met up with his friends and some girls. When he came back to the condo one evening he did not want to eat. He wouldn’t say what was wrong but it was obvious somebody made fun of him and he took it hard. When we got home he would not eat. He started to exercise but was much more withdrawn. He lost the weight but was troubled. The funny happy kid was gone. Wife wanted him to see a therapist. I was against it but she won out. Glad she did, it helped him a lot. He now is physically and mentally healthy.
Frankly it sucked when it happened but life ain’t fair and he will be a better man for having gone through it.
