I've been receiving SI in the mail for 10 years+ now without ever spending a dime on them.
Cancelled my subscription in 2013, have zero money that has gone out or been collected by them, but they just keep sending magazines to me.
It was already a dying business, but I can't imagine their stellar business practices enabled them to adapt with the times.

I got an email over the summer asking if I wanted SI for a year for free. All I had to do was give them my address, no payment info.
