For your old man, it is hard to go wrong with a Case. I bought mine one last year for Fathers Day and he loved it. Case kind of resonates with older folks and are fricking good knives. Hell I have probably 5 old Case knives from my Great Grandfather. Case has some modern locking knives and also some of their more 'traditional' knives that lock as well.

But there are tons of other good suggestions in this thread that other baws have mentioned. Working in an office, I try to carry something that isn't quite as noticeable to those that are nervous around shite like that. Outside of the office I have been carrying a Spyderco Para 3 LW for a while now. My price point is normally not that that high for a knife as I actually use them unlike some that just collect to look at them and keep them in a safe. If you don't want to go for a Case....I would suggest Benchmade, Kershaw, Spyderco(those are all easy to find). Besides those you could browse Cold Steel, Boker, Ontario, Buck, Civivi, WE, Kizer, and SOG. I mention Civivi, WE, and Kizer even though they are Chinese made. Bang for your buck and having such a huge selection of cheaper knives, they can be hard to beat at their price. Fit and finish is normally great as well. Hope this helps.
