How do you guys feel about Zac Arnett as a potential replacement for House?

I know he crashed and burned at moo state, but before that he was one legit defensive coordinator. Kelly spoke highly of him multiple times.

We interviewed him in 2021 for DC position and apparently botched the interview. I don’t know if they’ll take another look at him.

I feel like this is the 50th time someone has made this thread.

if he's the last option, then I'm not against it. We can do better though. Very unlikely (as of right now) but I'd take Freeman in a heartbeat if ND were to get rid of him.

He was interviewed in 21 after BO was shitcanned. From some accounts he gave a terrible interview. Doubt he gets a second shot.

No.
He disrespected LSU on his previous interview.
Plus he is not that good.
Just look at the State vs Bama games when he was DC for Leach.

Anything is better than what we have now. Literally anything.

worst interview O had ever seen.

I don’t think it’s a good fit.
I could see Arnett as a candidate for the San Diego St HC job though.

This is just a reminder, Zach Arnett never had an elite defense. They weren't terrible, but not great either. His rankings...
2022 #40
2021 #62
2020 #57
For comparison...
#34 2022 Matt House
#42 1999 Lou Tepper
#56 2008 Malveto
I think we can do better than Arnett

I wouldn't want Arnett for two reasons:
1. I've not been impressed w/ his defenses.
2. I question his judgment. He hired an OC who changed completely changed from the "Air Raid" offense to something else. Will Rogers went from good, to an average college QB. It reminded me of when I was living in OR and they changed HC's to one that liked the veer offense. He insisted on using the veer offense, thereby not utilizing the skills of his returning starting QB, a guy name Dan Fouts. One of all time great pocket passers ended up running the veer his senior year in college because that's what the new coach liked. A good coach finds a way to combine his strengths w/ the strengths of his players. I don't think Arnett can do that.

Didn't we interview and pass on him before?

I do not get the love for him. He was a decent DC at Moo St. DECENT. Even Orgeron wouldn't hire him. I'd rather keep House.

He runs a 3-3-5. We can’t stop Steven Hawking with 4 flat tires. Now you’re wanting us to answer the bell with 3 pedestrian D lineman AND a 5TH DB?! Our current 5 DB’s aren’t worth a nickel. Pun intended. Another schematic nightmare.

I’m in favor. He’s realistically the best we can get.

I like his demeanor; seems like a football players' coach. Him sticking around immediately after Leach's passing was the right move to keep the team together.
That said, after 4 seasons, his defense continually remained vulnerable to big plays on the back end. He chose to rely too heavily on 0 cover blitzes; the few games he didn't, he did fairly well. Having the Air Raid backing him up is what kept him in games; now that the offense fell apart spectacularly with both the wholesale switch from the Air Raid (mistake) and Rogers getting hurt, he was fully exposed. Had he slowly eased the Air Raid out with the players recruited for it, he may have fared better this season (still an 8-4 ceiling though).
Perhaps he could get better personnel for a 3-3-5 at LSU along with a more capable offense, but his getting burned on big plays in the secondary wore out his welcome. Y'all don't need any more that.
My guess is he ends up as DC at a smaller school or LB's coach at a bigger program.
