i get 45 (44.99...) for a. visually that looks close as if you lay the tilted square flat it would be between 6 and 7 units all (3+2+1+a little due to the tilt)^2

45 is right for A. I can't do simple math.
Use the Pythagorean theorem for the side.
By looking at the 4 box and 9 box, you'll realize the triangle formed is a 1 : 2 ratio of length v. Height.
The overall height of the 3 boxes is 6 ( 3+2+1=6)
Thus the length across the bottom would be 3.
6^2 + 3^2 = 45
The length of one side of the unknown square would be square root of 45.
So, just square that and get 45 for area of the big box
