Love Le Carre, Len Deighton, Charm School,Hunt For Red October, Hopscotch etc. Read DaSilva's Fallen Angel and did not care for it. I Am Pilgrim was a good deal better but still had problems. THanks

If you already read Hunt for Red October then you should consider reading the entire Jack Ryan series by Tom Clancy. Including Without Remorse which was the back story for Clark from Clear and Present Danger.

It's a really good series and Clancy did his homework so the facts and details are really good.

Check out

The Company by Robert Littell.

It's long but also epic in scope. The audio version is great.

Should have listed more i have already read. Already read The Company and Without Remorse, which i consider as good as any of those books. Red Storm Rising, Hunt For Red October and Without Remorse are the three top.

Not sure if it's modern enough, but I always liked the Peter Ashton series by Clive Egleton. Might also like some of Martin Cruz Smith's books on the Arkady Renko series. Again, may not be modern enough for you, but I've always enjoyed them, and they fit in that type of genre.

An honorable man by Paul vidich. While not set in modern times it's pretty decent.

Set in Cold War 1950s d.c. there's a mole in the CIA.

How about Vince Flynn's novels featuring protagonist Mitch Rapp? Also, Brad Thor's books.

I like Daniel Silve’s Gabriel Allon series. He is an Israeli spy. They’re fun reads.

Allon books are the best in that type of central protagonist category IMO.

Red Sparrow trilogy is excellent, and Jason Matthews (author) is a former CIA operations officer with Russia experience I believe. I just hope they don't frick up the upcoming movie, because the books are great.

My order for series I'm currently reading

Vince Flynn (Mitch Rapp)
Steve Berry (Cotton Malone)
Brad Thor (Scott Harvath)
James Rollins (Sigma Force)
Marc Cameron (Jericho Quinn)
Brad Taylor (Pike Logan)
Daniel Silva (Gabriel Allon)

I highly recommend any of the above. They are quick, page turning reads.
