Would we have won more games with Nick Marshall at DB last year?

I was a huge fan of Nick Marshall as Auburn's QB. Guy is clutch, great for the offense and was underrated at QB. The question is though, would we have won more games with JJ at QB and Nick at DB?

Nick Marshall's first Jaguars practice had him doing his best Prime Time Pick 6 impression

No we would not have but I am wanting Nick to make it big time

I think some of you do not know how good Nick was at our QB... No meaning you specifically Gene.

Dude made some unreal plays. And no way in hell we got to Pasadena without him in 2013

Nick Marshall was a fake punt away from getting a ring as starting qb.

Sobering.

No, the problem last year was due to a weak DL and no pass rush.

Nick was a bad arse QB.

Him making it on Sunday's would be my hope for hm. Guy balled out for AU, and has my respect and support

No, Oline was weak last year on pass blocking. JJ would have been chopped and stacked into cord wood.

Yes he was. And he deserved it. He was bad arse and played hard. He made plays for us that I do not believe JJ can make

It certainly will be interesting and I am excited to see us play this year.

Damn you Tiguar for bringing up the NC. We were this close.

I am actually more concerned about the offense this year than the defense. I know that is odd compared to everyone else here but its true

I would basically take our 2013 offense over any offense we have played in 20 years. I was so confident in that offense it was not even funny. Seemed like we could score points when we needed them on anyone. I love a run heavy offense

Switching to a pass heavy with a lot of new moving parts always has growing pains. We can not really afford growing pains with our offense. Our schedule is brutal as it is every year and though JJ is has very good skills, can he get us short yardage when we need it? That has been the strength of our offense.

We will see but I think Champ will have the defense playing at a level that will save us at times. Consistency of a pass heavy offense has me a little uneasy.

Yeah, I feel confident that JJ is a much better runner than most have seen or think. I just don't feel Malzahn let him run that much. No he won't be Nick Marshall good, but he will be able to get us yards by his feet in tough situations.

I really am not concerned with either the D or the O. I feel we have the talent and ability to win every game. It will come down to mistakes or a team is just better than us on that day. My biggest concern is our ST to be honest.

Obviously my positive outlook is based on JJ fulfilling expectations I have for him. It also is counting on Boom putting a better product on the field playing defense. I think we have some key players returning from injury. We have some talented skill players.

I think we will always have a significant run game. I don't think it will change as heavily as most think in that respect. I believe we will see bigger and quicker scoring plays due to the pass and yes more of them, but I also think the number of plays will increase this year. Just my opinion. You make some valid points though.

Where are you getting this from? We are still a run first team that just happens to have a QB with a big arm. To expect anything completely different than what we saw in any year before now is kinda unrealistic.

We're a run first play action offense and that's what we will be this year.

Either you went off the deep end or you just chose bad phrasing.

We will definitely not be pass heavy and the offense will no doubt be better than our defense

ETA: also I feel like Nick Marshall will never truly get the credit he deserves unless JJ just tanks this year.

Maybe my phrasing was off. More of a pass heavy team. i realize Gus is a run first guy which is one of the things I like about him. I am not a fan of the pass heavy offense. Having a running QB in Gus's offense is key to me. Hopefully JJ will bring some of that with him . From what I saw in the past, he was.

Its not a melt, just discussion on this thread and where we are headed. I love what JJ brings but I do not want to see big changes.

i think its gonna look like a perfect mix between the 2009 todd offense and the 2013 marshall offense...of course the first couple of games Gus will see what we are good at and build from there

To be fair we couldn't get short yardage last season with NM, but that was on a soft oline.

I agree with the comment made about NM never getting the credit he deserves. He was the best option. JJ will be the best option and has the potential to be better in 2015.

Been saying that for two years. Nick made some serious plays for us. He deserves more credit...

We also didn't have a great blocking back like the Hammer #35 Prosch

I don't think it will be pass heavy. I think it will be much more balanced. This will force D's to be more honest. They won't be able to load up the box.
