I will not argue that Gus is in trouble now.

It's not too early for us to discuss "Who is next?"

My question is this:

Why do I see people bring up stupid names for a HC like Lane Kiffin?

He is equally dumb as Boom. They were both miserable failures at prestigious schools.

If we are going to have a serious discussion about possible HC's, please be partially intelligent.

Off my soapbox.

I think at this point in his career a guy like Gary Patterson at TCU is a reasonable prospect.

You would think that me might finally consider he's done all he can at a program like TCU, right?

Kiffin is an "anyone but Gus" option. Some people are just so sick of Gus' shite, they're ready for about any half-viable option. I agree with your premise but Kiffin is going to be in any discussion for that reason.

You think TCU will let him walk away? Hell no, it'll be another case of Auburn getting everybody raises in their current job.

Gus also hasn't endeared himself to the fanbase with the endless coach speak and acting like a paranoid robot at press conferences.

Unless he has an existing huge buyout (and he may), I don't see any way they could prevent it IF Patterson finally decided he wanted to make a step up in competition.

It's reasonable that Kiffin had learned a lot about being a OC under Saban. I think that was part of the mindset between the two since the beginning.

Kiffin is now part of a pretty good coaching tree. He showed promise at UT, but flamed out at USC. I don't think he'd make the same mistakes twice, especially after observing how Saban runs his program.

Why would Patterson leave? He can compete in the Big 12, has his program established, and will never be fired from there. He can just coach ball and never worry about losing his job.

Maybe because some coaches are competitive and have a desire to win a championship? And he's never going to win one at TCU?

Also, if Houston ends up in Big12, the conference is going to become a lot more competitive.

Patterson may be getting stale. Not sure he has it in him to rebuild an SEC program against the likes of Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Florida.

I say go for a younger guy that's run a good program at a smaller school. North Dakota St is well-oiled machine. Would their head coach be a bad choice? I really don't know much about him.

I agree with you.

But most of the coaching discussion has made clear that most don't want an "unproven" guy again. Which is why I mentioned the established Patterson.

why is that? He already been very close. Make a run in the Big 12 and he can easily make the playoffs.

And then what happened when he got that close and probably SHOULD have been selected?

Kiffin would be Malzahn 2.0
Good OC, terrible HC and program manager.

Except instead of bible thumping, Kiffin would be banging sorostitutes in his free time. And I prefer to leave as many loose college girls as possible for us little people.

Since being under saban, Kiffin has learned how to bang young women, tweet embarrassing trolls, and get a divorce.

Yeah... nothing he's done since he's gotten to Tuscaloosa makes you think he's matured. He's a damn good play caller, and has done a very good job considering all their QB turnover.... but he's not HC material, especially at a high profile gig.
