I'll repeat what I said after the UGa debacle (the first two things have pretty much happened):

quote:

Vs Idaho: JJ starts, running pretty much the same offense we ran against TAMU/UGa - emphasis on Jovon/Peyton, some 'safe' passes (nothing downfield), a little tempo here and there. Hopefully our D keeps it up and we can outscore them to get bowl eligible. If we're fortunate enough to get to a sizable lead (not likely, but possible) put in Jon Wallace and let him lead the offense. SW should be in street clothes, preferably in a wheelchair.

Vs Bama: Same as above. Take our lumps, we're not going to have a chance in this one. Probably more like the '11 game than '08 or '12, fortunately, but we will get our asses kicked. Have SW dress out but tell him to leave his helmet in the locker room. JJ throughout unless they break him in two, then Wallace again.

VS Crappy Bowl Opponent: Spend the entire 15 practices putting in the 2009 Chris Todd offense (think the UT/WVU games, or the bowl vs NW) with SW getting 80% of the first team reps (provided his leg hasn't fallen off). Plan on running this same offense in '16, with SW and Tyler Queen competing for the starting job. Quietly but discreetly suggest to JJ that the Liberal Arts major at Alabama State is highly underrated.
And I remain on record as believing that we can still win big with the offense we ran in '09, provided we have a QB who can make the throws and an OL that can protect him while still being capable of opening holes for our RBs.

The question is, how committed is Gustav to the 2013 "got to have an immensely talented, fast, strong dual threat QB who can read defenses on the fly" offense?

My only thing with the Chris Todd Offense is we need at least one Darvin Adams type reciever that steps up in big situations and catches at least 80% of the passes thrown his way.

Not this 50/50 chance of a drop we've been having.

Yeah. The Chris Todd offense doesn't work with receivers that don't catch the ball

The Chris Todd offense was also underwhelming against SEC competition

You know the saying that some coaches have forgotten more football than the average fan will ever know in their lifetime? Well in Gus's case, I think he really is forgetting football. Either he has completely forgotten the Chris Todd year, or he misplaced the 09 playbook a long time ago.

If it is common knowledge on the team that JJ is transferring, which I believe would be the case if the public is getting wind of this info, then it needs to be White if healthy.

There is absolutely no point trotting a QB out there who plans on leaving.

Where have you read that JJ plans on transferring? I haven't heard that.

Now they are saying JJ is wanting to stay and fight for his job this spring. If this happens and I hear "well he had a good Spring" I am done with Malzahn!

Who is they? There was a link or screen shot in the JJ transferring thread about him leaving. Please provide link or screenshot to "they"

I think one of the major problems of that '09 team was that all the talent was on the defensive side of the ball, save for the holdovers from that terrific OL class from '07. And those guys were hamstrung in '08 by having a position coach who was adamantly opposed to the blocking style his OC needed to make his offense work. Which is why it didn't.

Doesn't anyone here, when waxing poetically about that '08 defense, remember how we averaged 4.48 yards per play on offense that same season? To see how that stacks up, we averaged 5.27 per play in 2012, and a whopping 5.37 this year.

Gustav took the worst AU offense in modern AU history and turned it around in one year (6.14 yards per snap in '09), with essentially the same key personnel. And as much as we were 'underwhelming against SEC competition' in '09 (377 yards per game, 5.42 yards per play), the previous season we were nonexistent (266 yards per game, 4.09 yards per play).

One final fun factoid from '09: with the totally immobile Chris Todd under center, in 8 SEC games we averaged 203 yards rushing a game - only one year after we averaged rushing for 94 per game against conference foes.

JJ. Sean is likely done for the season & maybe the Spring too as there is talk he may have to get knee surgery.

As things appear to be right now I would not be surprised if JF3 is our 2016 starting QB.

We should just let Tucker Tuberville start this game. If we are going to be a dumpster fire, at least let a kid get his moment.

Want to know some other factoids?

-If you ignore statistical outlier MSU, we only averaged 177YPG against SEC competition
-Against teams with winning record we only rushed for 170YPG
-Against ranked teams, we averages 135ypg
-In the final 11 games, we only averaged 187.75ypg

1- Not sure what being hamstrung in 2008 has to do with 2009. Glad you acknowledge OL talent

2- Our non QB skill players were Ben Tate, Darvin Adams, TZach, OMac, Eric Smith and Mario Fannin..... so basically our 2010 team except Ben Tate > Michael Dyer

if JFIII gets the job, he better put on about 40 pounds in the off season.
