Gus is incapable of making tough decisions like a big time coach. He is very loyal, which is admirable, but it's highschool-level decision making. Great coaches recognize that they have blind spots and are self-aware enough to address them and make tough decisions. Gus does not have it in him.

Gus is a nice guy. Hes a good husband and father. He's a good tactician at times. He's a solid recruiter. All are admirable traits. But he is not a big time coach. Just not in his DNA.

Apparently, crazy IS contagious! Being married to Christie has showed it's toll.
