"We just need to get 13 seconds better."

Remember this idiotic statement after losing to Fla St in Pasadena.
I just note that you didn't hear such drivel last year from Clemson or Saban last night.

So you hate Gus. We get it.

What is wrong with that statement? We acknowledged that we got beat and were using it as motivation to be better. There is plenty of reasonable things to be pissy at Gus about to not have to make up stuff.

Or put Nick Marshall in as DB...

Of all the things to be mad at Gus about this seems pretty low on the list

I would have preferred Gus say "we should have punched Jaboo in the dick"
Would have been more accurate.

So you think "love beats hate" is better?

This thread could have been so much better. Instead of worshiping the mighty Saban and mighty Dabo, just stick to Auburn.
Gus said we needed to get 13 seconds better, but we seemed to have gotten ~5 games worse.

I'll fully accept the criticisms. Fair enough.
My point for raising the topic was to highlight Coach Malzahn's hubris. It is his least admirable character trait. It has come up a few other times during his Auburn years including after Arky this year.
I had a friend from the military that attempted to summit Mt Everest. He made it all the way about 200 feet from the summit but had to turn around and come down b/c of lung issues. I asked him 45 days later if he would try again (he's done well financially) and he said yes. But he he knew he would have to get his butt kicked for 6 months again in training to get ready.
Auburn after Pasadena was like my friend but Gus didn't realize it. He thought it would be so easy to return to the same spot 200 feet from the summit. Telling his players they only needed to get 13 seconds better likely made them work less hard than if he had understood the truth which involved starting all over from ground zero, extreme hard work and some luck.
That was my point in comparing to Clemson and Bama (both of whom I despise).

Sounds like your friend started putting in the work to get 200 feet better.
Find something legit to complain about.... this isn't it.

If Malzahn would have come back a year or two later and won a NC and said we finally got "13 seconds better" finally paid off you probably would have agreed.
Teams like Clemson who get to the precipice of glory only to lose all to often start the next season with, "unfinished business."
That loss was soul crushing for Malzahn and even if he wins a championship at the college level he will go to his grave thinking he still needed to be 13 seconds better that night.

Actually our Special Teams, particularly Cody Parkey, needed to be better.
Gus won't get us back to the Natty game.
