I'm annoyed by this. I understood them throwing the bank at Notre Dame but 10 mil more than us for UCLA seems like a slap in the face. They're an LA market but Auburn is a Sports market. They don't care half as much about athletics as we do. Feel like Auburn brings more value

I said all that to say, Fire Jay Jacobs

There are literally a thousand reasons to fire Jay Jacobs. This isn't one of them.

We got a 10 million stock option as part of the deal. With the way UA is growing that will up the total value of our deal in the coming years. But come on LA/Cali vs Auburn. People buy UCLA gear that dont even follow the team

Yeah, UCLA is still thought of as a national basketball power and is a national brand. Auburn is just a very good football program in a small market and a regional brand.

If you travel outside of the South it's depressing how many people either haven't heard of Auburn or if they have don't know where it is. My dad is from the Midwest and before he moved to Alabama thought Auburn was in Arizona. Last time I was in Indianapolis, the one dude who claimed to like college football said "Oh yeah, Auburn... Aren't y'all the Horned Frogs? No wait, the Ducks?"

It's fricking LA, dude

The way these contracts are sky rocketing, I'm not sure I want anything that is 15 years long without a way out. Surprised UCLA went that long with it

Jay-sessed.

I often wonder which one of you is Paul Davis in real life.

(P.S. Yes, I know Paul Davis is dead.)

No. I'm in a completely irrational place about Auburn sports right now. Every little thing that happens seems like a slap in the face of our inadequacies

If DyeHardDylan isn't upset about the deal, we shouldn't be either. He chomps at the bit for any reason to hate Jacobs

Don't forget that signing UCLA is a big strategic move for UA. UCLA is a basketball blue blood program and perennial Pac12 contender

Under Armour has clearly tried to make moves in college basketball, paying a premium is how you do it.

The UCLA deal is crazy, it is the largest in the country. More than Alabama, etc. crazy money. (NOTE: I think we get more that Alabama with Nike)

That's like saying we should recruit kids who aren't athletic because they have heart

Shoulda said College Sports Market not that it matters. I admit to not considering how much "LA" factored into the UCLA deal.

Also, GenesChin point about UCLA basketball pedigree being an added draw. We complain that UA hampers us in Basketball recruiting so this might be them trying to rectify that

Still doesn't make me feel better about Auburn getting low balled

Birmingham typically ranks in the top 5 tv markets for a lot of sporting events mainly college football but think we do high NFL *sometimes basketball #'s also. That's what I meant by sports market. We watch a lot of televised events here

Didnt know NFL had a shooty hoops league.

Anyhow, Auburn football may help translate into Birmingham market viewership but that's a small portion of the pie. There's no sense in trying to double down here

But yeah, this and future UA signings should begin to help us out in basketball though it seems Pearl has mitigated a lot of our recruiting struggles.
