Jason Smith aims for breakout season

quote:

In the time since he took over for Craig, Burns said he’s already seen plenty of progress from Smith.

“He’s kind of changed his attitude, he’s changed everything that he’s doing,” Burns said. “He looks quicker, he understands the offense a little better and he’s more comfortable in his role. He realizes he feels a sense of urgency about being that guy, (like), 'I want to be that big-play guy.'”

quote:

Smith owes that improvement to a simple change in mentality. No longer does he get exasperated by the smallest thing. Instead, he says he now takes "a positive mindset in everything I do," be it on the football field or in the classroom.

Only because our defense sucked
Our first-team defense was pretty damn salty early in the 2014 season. Only allowed 4.5 yards per snap through the first 5 games, 4 of which were against bowl-bound opponents.

I still blame Gustav for letting Whitehead back on the team. That neatly coincided with our defense self-destructing.

Want to know what also neatly coincided with our defense self destructing? When we played 7 out of the 8 best offenses on our schedule mostly on the road

First Five Games

Average Offensive Ranking - 66
Best offense Ranking - 50 (KState)
Low Offensive Ranking - 80 (LSU)

Last 7 Games (Samford is FCS)

Average Offensive Ranking- 28
Best Offensive Ranking - 8 (MSU)
Worst Offensive Ranking - 54 (Ole Miss)

I am telling you WHY SW has not locked this tish up yet.

You can keep saying that, but that didn't stop Gustavo from starting many, many other players at Auburn who participated.

You think Nick Marshall stopped trying to be a "Highest Man" after he got caught? Spoiler: He didn't

Were those actual MVPs or participants? It is dumbfounding though that SW was praised at the Elite 11 for his accuracy above all other things. What the hell happened? And before the Lashlee pics - what could a coach do to diminish accuracy

Asking Sean White to throw the deep post and whirly bird would definitely hurt his accuracy. Sean needs to be in an offense like TTU or Washington State. He could probably throw for 4k yards.

SW was having a good year until the injury at Arkie. The future for Auburn is this guy...

QB Woody Barrett, ????
Woody Barrett is the most interesting player in this freshman class because all it will take is a repeat of the 2015 season for coaches to rip the redshirt off the quarterback and throw him on the field. Barrett is an ultra-confident quarterback with great size, speed and accuracy throwing the football. He needs more time learning and understanding the offense after arriving late to campus in July, but he is the future of this offense. If Auburn struggles at the quarterback position, don’t be surprised if Barrett is playing midway through the season.

Verdict: Jury’s out

We said this about Rollison, Frazier, J. Johnson, Franklin III, and now Barrett. We should probably stop saying things like that.

Just to be clear, some including myself never said that about Franklin and anybody who did, well that's a personal problem...

He cant even separate himself from Sean White and JJ. Future my arse. He should be running jet sweeps or playing WR and the ONLY reason he is getting a shot at Qb is that Gus is desperate to have a mobile Qb.

It sounds like UGA is starting Eason. Why can't we start a true freshman too? Sure, it might make for a long season, but get him in and get him experience. Especially since it doesn't look like we'll be blowing anyone out with the exception of Alabama A&M so he won't get mop-up duty in many games.

Because we don't have a top 5 recruit 5* who enrolled in January to get an early start on our roster

We (Auburn fans did), me personally, the only one off that list that I was convinced was a stud was JJ. I was never a fan of JFIII, Frazier or Rollison.

I will admit that I bought into the Frazier hype.

The most popular QB is almost always the newest one who hasn't played.

Sean White can't even separate himself from JFIII and Jeremy Johnson, bro.
