AUBURN, Ala. -- Defensive back Marshall Taylor was absent from practices for the second straight day as he tends to personal issues.
The graduate transfer has not been in attendance during the first two days of preseason camp and the full reason why remains a mystery.
A few more notes from the 20-minute open viewing session, which included plenty of stretching and not much in the way of drills:
First team defense
Defensive line: Carl Lawson, Montravius Adams, Dontavius Russell, Marlon Davidson
Linebackers: Tre' Williams, Darrell Williams
Cornerbacks: Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean
Safeties: Rudy Ford, Nick Ruffin
Second team defense
Defensive line: Jeff Holland, Derrick Brown, Antwuan Jackson Jr., Byron Cowart
Linebackers: T.J. Neal, Deshaun Davis
Cornerbacks: Josh Holsey, John Broussard Jr.
Safeties: Javaris Davis, Tray Matthews
Notes: There was also a mix with Devaroe Lawrence, Maurice Swain Jr. and Paul James III with the second-team defensive line. We also saw Javaris Davis with second-team secondary. There was also a mix with Raashed Keenion and Andrew Williams.
First team offense
Offensive line: Austin Golson, Alex Kozan, Xavier Dampeer, Braden Smith, Robert Leff
Quarterback(s): Jeremy Johnson/Sean White
Running back: Kerryon Johnson
H-Back: Chandler Cox
Second team offense
Offensive line: Darius James, Tyler Carr, Kaleb Kim, Mike Horton, Deon Mix
Running back: Kamryn Pettway/Malik Miller
Quarterback: John Franklin III
H-Back: Landon Rice
Note: It's not yet clear but defensive back Stephen Davis Jr. might be seeing time with the running backs. He was seen standing in the vicinity of freshman Kam Martin during one portion of practice. We'll ask Gus Malzahn for further clarification following practice.
Notes
•Tight end Landon Rice worked with the offensive line in early-session drills.
•Tight end Jalen Harris worked with the H-Backs.
•Keenan Sweeney and Montavious Atkinson worked together; Darrell Williams and Tre' Williams worked together among the linebackers.
•Receiver Kyle Davis (foot surgery) was not wearing a brace on his leg today.
•Offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho had braces on both knees and was jogging in an effort to test his legs. The extent of the injury is not yet known.
•Freshmen wore helmets for the first time this preseason, but were not participating in full drills in the early portion of practices.
•Former Auburn coach Pat Dye watched practice from the sidelines.
•John Franklin III was energized, like usual, and made sure to walk up to a young kid and give him a high-five during Auburn's stretching period.
•Former Auburn punter Steven Clark was in attendance.

I really hope his talent doesn't go to waste at Auburn.

I like that defensive lineup. I'm sure Neal will probably win the job, but if not, that's cool too.
Interesting to see J. Davis at safety. With his speed, he could be dangerous over the top.

Since when was Stephen Davis Jr enrolled? Did I miss something?

I would assume they are wanting to teach him how to properly block, considering that is really important.

I think it was Jay Tate pointed out that Neal and Tre Williams are similar in the box smash mouth type LBs. Darrell Williams is supposed to be more rangy which is probably a better combo than Neal/Williams

Maybe I missed something, but when was he not enrolled?

We're also missing a defensive player. Who was playing 5th db I wonder?

Works for me. I'm fine with a Williams combo.

Darrell Williams older sister was the Ray Lewis of powderpuff football. He's gonna be a good one.

Wife knows his parents a little, they are great people. Been rooting for him and all practice notes only say good things about him

I'm pretty sure Darrell Williams is same guy that basically begged Bama for a commitable offer through the media.

From the little I know, he grew up an Alabama fan and before he committed to Auburn he was really hoping for a committable offer
Once he committed to Auburn, he listened to Alabama but him and his family were pretty pro AU at that point.

Kodi working with Freshman receivers
Kodi isn't afraid to get on them. I like how detailed he is being with them. All three look physically capable.

He didn't become locked in until Adonis Thomas committed to Bama late in the process.
