Looking back on Gustav's record at AU, I just realized how differently I would feel about him if he had managed to win just three more regular season games in the last three seasons:

TAMU in 2014
UGa in 2015
UGa in 2016

All three very beatable teams, in games that we were in position to win in the final minutes. Not much would have changed in terms of our rankings/standings/bowl destinations/recruiting etc. But at least evidence that he was capable of beating our annual SEC opponents when they were having mediocre seasons, even when we were struggling ourselves.

Somehow I feel my disappointment in the current state of AU football would be considerably less had the outcomes of just those three contests been reversed, even if nothing else had changed (including our performance thus far in 2017).

Anyone agree?

Actually winning 2014 A&M game could have provided a nice springboard for the remainder of the season, no?

Always possible there could have been different outcome if we had won going into those games vs UGA and Bama?

IMO, if he wins A&M 2014 that would have been a 10 win team. They would have won the bowl game with the 10 win motivation.

In 2015 8-5 with QB issues would have been understandable.

In 2016 9-4 wouldn't look so bad with the injury issues.

Everyone labels Gus an 8 win coach, but that has been true of all Auburn coaches throughout the years. It's a tough road to hoe, and I doubt the next guy will be much different.

Firmly believe that we win this then we don't lose in Athens.

I can't forgive Gus for the 2015 and 2016 UGA losses....just inexcusable

I also think HOW he's lost has really hurt him. Both losses to Clemson felt more like coaching failures than anything to do with talent on the field. Same with 2015 & 2016 UGA games. Combination of those 3 losses you mentioned plus offensive ineptitude recently has people feeling the way they do right now

egg fricking zackly

Gus losing to UGA these past two years the way he did should have gotten him fired. Add in the Clemson cluster frick for good measure

If we don't beat Georgia this year, Gus has got to go. PERIOD.

It's interesting.

But pure W/L isn't all of my angst about Gus.

Last year's Clemson game was inexplicable. I'm not going to say we should have won in the sense we were better than Clemson, but remarkably, we could have. Then factor in rough outings against Jax St and Mercer.

I do agree Gus is sitting a little better if he won those three games.

Would not care about the losses had the offense been ready to compete. No excuse for not having his players, game plan, contingency plan prepared.

The TAMU loss in 2014, I believe, was due to poor preparation/motivation.

It appeared that everyone on the team felt like it would be an easy win and were thinking more about the showdown with UGa the following week.

The UGa games were entirely the fault of Gustav/Lashlee mishandling the QB situation. White was physically fit and should never have played either game. His inability to perform - and our HC's lack of a plan B - led to the losses.

Those are the kind of situations where coaching makes all the difference, IMHO.

What if we had lost 2013 Bama? No SECC, no NC game...
