Sudden realization: AU coordinators make for unsuccessful HCs

Seriously, I was thinking about our recent history with DCs and realized that hardly any of our former OCs or DCs have gone on to any sustained success as HCs.
Other than Petrino (who was only here for one season), the next most successful former AU coordinators are Gustav and Chiz, whose best seasons as HCs (thus far) were at AU. Boom's getting another chance, but other than that our OCs and DCs who have managed to rise above that level elsewhere have all been fired, and never rehired, at least not by FBS schools.
One possible exception is Jimbo, but technically he was never more than an interim OC. Every other one that I can think of has flamed out.
ETA: (partial list)
Jack Crowe (fired at Arky)
Pat Sullivan (fired at TCU)
Tommy Bowden (fired at Clemson)
Can't think of any others...

Or it's that in the current culture of college football, with its high standards, most HC's fail.

Some people I know that works with the football program has told me Chizik and Bobby P are two of the best coaches we have had (in terms of football knowledge)

its rare when a coach leaves on his own, or retires. MOST get fired eventually.

Pat Sullivan (fired at TCU)
Pat was going to be the head coach at LSU.. they screwed up the contract, he went back to TCU, but it hurt him with the administration, boosters, recruits, etc.. Dang good coach...

Paul Rhoades fired at Iowa State (although Nick Saban would have trouble at Iowa State)

You could say this about a lot of schools

90% of all college football coaches are unsuccessful. There is just not enough wins to go around to keep fans happy.

Dell McGee looked pretty good as interim HC at Ga Southern...
