Stidham on if he can change the play calls: "That's something to talk about with Coach Lindsey. I'm doing what I'm told to do." #MGMAuburn

Stidham on if he has the right to get out of a play or if he has to transition into that role later: "Maybe transition in that." #MGMAuburn

It doesn't sound like Jarrett Stidham has the power from the coaches to check out of plays. This is a bit surprising.

It's sad that Gus Lovelace is unable to have checks or hot routes because he is afraid.

I'm guessing Gus is just too much of a control freak to ever allow us to audible. I don't think it's ever been a feature in his offense.
I'm thinking we were too hard on Jeremy Johnson. Him being told exactly what play to run with no ability to audible on top of being told exactly what WR to throw to...
It's almost impossible to succeed in this offense unless you have superior talent. Every single opposing coach and player states out loud that they know what is coming.

Has a QB ever been able to audible in Gus’ offense? I thought that’s the whole point of when everyone looks to the sideline after they get set. I thought this was already pretty well known?

I heard Cam was allowed to audible between 36 and 37

Almost a testament to how good Sean White was and really a testament to how damn good Jarret Stidham is. For those two to have the individual success they had/are having with every single play scripted is astounding

This just confirms that Gus is a paranoid control freak.

I have told yall Gus' Ego is huge. That is one stubborn MF. He would bury himself alive to prove he could handle a shovel. Another thing can you blame Stidham for being pissed. He has been on fire and Gus literally took the game out of his hands after a Quarter and a half yesterday.

Our QBs have never been able to audible. That shouldn't be news to you.
What do you think we're doing when we are loooking at the sidelines? Coaches audible.

I honestly don't remember any QB ever under Gus that has had the power to do that.
I thought that was what the whole MeerCat deal to the sideline was for.

I wish he would publically give Gus a big fat double bird and change the fricking play.

This is no big secret. We run 1 or 2 man routes and don't audible or check down. There is a gif from the bama game a year ago where we had 3 wrs to one side 1 wr to the other. The single wr was not covered at all. The qb looked his way pre snap noticed it and still snapped the ball dropped back and threw it to the other side of the field
There's another one that was a huge 3rd down play for us I believe we converted to Ricard on a deep sideline throw but as soon as we snapped the ball the 2 wrs on the opposite side of the field just jogged off the LOS then turned and looked to the opposite side of the field watching to see if Ricardo would catch the pass way before qb ever threw it lol

How many times do we look to the sideline and change the play to a Pass? Really all you need to know about who is calling the plays.

I do not really understand this. I am pretty sure if Stidham did his research (am sure he did) he would have known this.
As others said, that is how Gus has worked since he first got here. They look to the sideline for a change in the play, and do not audible their own.
Not sure why this would be so surprising.

I think folks understand the looking to the sideline but it is ridiculous nonetheless

Audibles are made by Gus/Chip via team looking to sideline. Why would any team want a 18-22 year old kid calling plays instead of experienced OCs getting a bird's eye view from the booth?
More importantly, in what fricking world do ya'll live in where you think that a Gus coached QB can make presnap reads necessary for an audible?

Nearly every college offense does it at this point. This isn't a "Gus" thing
As I said above, you theoretically should trust an OC to read the defense more than a 18-22 year old kid
