The idea is to allow freshman to focus on academics their first year and get established in their new routine as a division I student-athlete. The only thing it changes is playing time - freshman still practice, go to team meetings, etc. - so it's not like they're going to have this unending fount of time to really focus on academics. I don't think it's the best solution either, and further divides already established successful programs from the rest (nobody would be able to offer early-playing time to recruits anymore). But whatever. Since when does the NCAA make thorough, rational decisions?
Personally, I feel like if you have trouble passing 13th grade core classes with the vast support system you have for tutors, etc. as a student athelete, college may not be for you anyway

Unless they are going to limit their practices, meetings and/or film room time this won't do a whole lot.

Would improve College mens basketball a ton. However, I dont think so for CFB.

IMO, it would be the opposite... To really get better at basketball, you gotta get your arse on the court. there's a lot physical development in football the would benefit guys if the sat out as a frosh... but I just don't see that for CBB.
You'd also need to up the scholarship numbers... especially in basketball.

I think it would increase pressure on the NBA to create a weird developmental league or something rather than using college basketball to funnel their recruits through.
