How did we win an SEC championship in 2013 and play for a national title?

Is it because we had talent Chizik recruited?

I see people already wanting to hire Chip Kelly.

I do agree it's frustrating. Especially if you look at Ole Miss. They have continually gotten better under Freeze and very likely make the trip to Atlanta and win the SEC barring a complete collapse, serious injuries, or more NCAA trouble.

ETA: I am not advocating to replace Malzahn at this point. I just want to know the reasoning behind the people who want him gone.

He's not. He needs to recruit better at QB and on defense.

It is a little early to be calling him a bad coach.

New DC --- Muschamp will make them better. He is getting freshman good experience.

Offense, our qb is killing us.

It is only the third game of the season.

It was all luck bro. He took a mid grade team to the natty with a DB at quarterback on a lucky whim. He beat a undefeated Alabama team full of the best recruits in the country on a single lucky play

I would take Chip Kelly over Malzahn simply because he seems more innovative, unpredictable, and aggressive. No way JJ would have stayed in with Chip Kelly, or almost any other coach for that matter.

I would like Malzahn to stay the coach, but he needs to recognize his mistakes. I don't really think he does at this point. If he can fix some of his tendencies, and actually be willing to bench a struggling QB, he would be fine.

Who here other than AUNashville is saying Gus is a terrible coach? I haven't seen much of that on this site

Gus is a good coach all signs pointed to JJ being a very good qb no one would have guessed he would go Kiehl Frazier when he got his shot as far as Freeze he will screw up this year always does plus NCAA bought to go balls deep in Ole Piss

He's a good coach. He does have some flaws. The question now is will he recognize the flaws and work to improve them? If not, it could be a bumpy couple years for Auburn and him.

Yes, everyone thought JJ would be good. However, he has collapsed mentally and just can't produce in that state. A smart HC who cares about winning would not keep starting him.

Also, everyone cheats in recruiting. Shut the frick up about that shite.

Chizik recruited extremely well and a lot of that culminated in 2013. But remember we could have easily been 8-4 or 9-3 in 2013. And we completely blew a 21-3 lead against Florida State which looked more like a game during the Barfield era. We underachieved last year and we are definitely underachieving this year. Games like last year against Georgia and pretty much every game this year have been extremely concerning. There were absolutely no adjustments at all and Gus keeps saying "we had a great week at practice". I think he'll get another year, but things are spiraling down way too fast and I don't think he's the right person to fix it, to be completely honest.

He's a great coach and a great offensive mind.

But.

1) Being a head coach is more than just coordinating an offense and it's more than just hiring someone (boom) to come in and run the defense on autopilot and hope everything works out

2) Right now we have a definite lull in spirit and a severe lack of depth on D that is directly the fault of the recruiters on this squad. Boom should help with time but you see the results of it now

3) Chip Kelly is perhaps one of the top 3 most well known alumni of NCAA head coachships and would be an instahire at 99% of programs. His name alone would change the course of a program, ours included.

That being said, it's a pipe dream and won't happen. People are just frustrated. Also as heavy as Auburn's resources are, I'm not sure if he would go to a program that lacked the blank check that Oregon has. Or if he would come back to the NCAA at all.

Six months ago if you asked any college football fan if they would like to have Gus Malzahn coaching offense and Will Muschamp coaching defense, they would have said frick yes.

JJ shite the bed and our defense is playing about how we thought they would under Champ's first year.

I for one am glad Gus has such a big buyout so we don't have to entertain the morons who want to get rid of him now.

He's not. He has a QB withering under the pressure of being the starter.

Yep. JJ's performance has shocked everyone. Anyone that has anybody close to the program knows that Gus really believed we would contend this year and be very good. JJ has taken everybody by surprise.

Malzahn has a good mind. He has, what, 3 years of head coach experience at any level? Was he a head coach at the hs level, even?

Think for a moment the learning curve associated with coaching a major program like auburn and consider the experience he is against. Yes Merlins and freezus are new too but they didn't go to an sec championship yet.

Saban, les, richt, et al probably learn something new every day. Consider how many more days they've had over Gus, then consider the limitations that already exist at auburn (sharing a state with a juggernaut, etc).

The defense we've seen has multiple etiologies. The offense is mostly a product of very poor qb play. Gus has his weaknesses but every coach does. He'll adapt. He's the kind of person that's too smart to be bad at something.

No one knows anything about this team because of how bad JJ's play has been. I hate it for him.

The lack of a legit passing threat is screwing literally everything.

He's not a bad coach. He's just young and inexperienced but full of potential. It would be a mistake to fire him this year or next year I feel regardless of record. Gus is just young and prone to mistakes as any fourth year head coach at a big 6 program would be. If Gus can recognize that his stubbornness is a problem and figure some other things out he can be our Mark Richt plus some championships.

That being said we need to bring Chip in the back door at 3 am in the morning while no one's watching and gauge his interest. If he's down, cut Chip Lite a nice little severance package, and let's build a bigger trophy case.

I've posted this on tRant before, but it bears repeating: in over 25 seasons at the HS and collegiate level, including 18 years as HC (15 in HS, 3 in college). Gustav Malzahn has never been part of a program that finished with fewer than 8 victories. And that includes with HS programs with 10-game regular seasons.

I still don't think we will finish with fewer than 8 wins this season.

Don't want CMR. There is no suh thing as CMR with championships. His records were greatly aided with the complete collapse of UT and UF.

I want 2013 Gus.

I want the Gus who said this needs to be better and changed the offense on the fly in september of 2010 and 2013 to get things moving. And it worked. Don't want 2014 Gus.
