This is not meant to be a flame thread, I'm just genuinely curious what you guys saw that has you so excited?

I know it was his first start and he looked OK, but how was he any different than Jeremy Johnson? His completion percentage was higher because he was asked to throw downfield 5-6 times the entire game. 3 of those passes should have been picked off.

Almost all of his passing yards until that last drive against prevent D were on swing passes to Kerryon or Roc. His biggest play of the night was a horrendous pass that should have been easily intercepted to set us up in the redzone.

I know the play calling was terrible and I'm not putting this all on White and I liked his demeanor much more than Johnson who just looked completely lost and surprised when coming off the field after his INTs but I saw very little difference between the two when it came to actually throwing the ball.

I hope I'm wrong but the more I see the more I'm convinced we have to have an elite athlete playing QB to be a consistently successful offense.

Pretty sure his arm or the ball was hit at the line on that play.

I saw a confident qb with pocket awareness and the ability to go through progressions and hit open receivers. I saw an offense that was able to move the sticks consistently.

I mean I can count on one hand the number of completions down the field and they were mostly one route reads to Duke or that one that should have been picked. What plays did I miss?

Yes, our running game was very good last night.

Well that is improvement. You want him to chunk it downfield when Gus calls for a swing pass?

And we were a little more balanced in the passing game, which helped.

White made his check-downs. There were times when he stared down his primary receiver and forced it, but not nearly as many times as Jeremy and quite frankly, 3 "almost-interceptions" is better than double digit of the same that Jeremy had against an inferior defense.

The biggest thing to me is, this is a guy that's making his first start as a redshirt freshman, and he didn't lose the game for us. He actually showed enough poise to make me think that by the end of the season, we should be able to start trusting him enough to shift him from "not losing us games" to maybe setting him up to make plays with his arm on his own, which is something that we thought we would have with Johnson right off the bat and that was clearly not the case.

The exciting part is that if we've got three to four years of the Sean White Era to look forward to and he only gets better from here, there will be some bright days in our future. Especially if Muschamp can work our defense like it looks like he's going to.

ETA: Apologies for straying away from the constant doom and gloom that's being spewed all across this board.

Ha, I mean I think that's where most people are at which I can understand.

I just think a lot of people seem to be mistaking being better than Johnson for being able to lead us to something significant. The former I can agree with, the latter I'm not sure about. Gus is going to have to really get his head out of his arse for it to even be a possibility.

All of that. I don't think you can ask much more of a freshman starting their first game in SEC play. Sean usually made the right decisions, and has tons of upside. Is he a world beater? No, but he has the tools to be an incredible talent and has the confidence you need in the backfield. If he continues to develop, the running game keeps clicking, and Muschamp keeps putting the fear of God into the D like he did for the last half...we have a shot at being pretty damn good at the end of the season.

Seriously? How many high or low passes did you see out of White? His ball placement and touch is miles ahead of Johnson. His mechanics and footwork are also miles ahead.

Other than maybe an upset win, we are past winning anything significant this season.

I think there is near consensus on this point.

Not scared to run, quick decisions, stays in the pocket. Impressed.

Him protecting the ball gave the D a chance to work. His legs and, again, not turning the ball over also helped the RBs. We can work with him. Throwing INTs is a team killer.

Well on the 5-6 times he actually threw down the field probably 3 or 4. The only two good passes he made all night were the one on the first drive to Duke and on the last drive to Duke. Everything else was swing passes to running backs.

He threw three passes right to the other team, they just totally missed two of them.

This wasn't supposed to be a is he or isn't he the guy. I just want to know what you guys saw last night that I obviously missed.
