Auburn safety Derrick Moncrief hopes to transfer from the program, he told the Advertiser on Friday morning.

Moncrief said he'd like to play at another FBS program, possibly in the ACC, and playing time is his main motivation.

"I came in as the No. 1 safety in the country and things are just not going well there," Moncrief said. "But Auburn was a good place, I just want to thank them for everything, for them recruiting me, and I wish them the best of luck."

Wherever Moncrief transfers, he wants to play for, "one of the best defensive coordinators," with a track record of success with defensive backs.

"Whoever has the best resume, whoever produces the most defensive backs," Moncrief said. "Who's going to coach me to be one of the greatest to ever do it. I'm willing to be coached by one of those guys."

Although he spent just one season at Auburn, Moncrief wasn't disappointed with his experience.

"You learn stuff as a man going through the process. I think certain stages of your life builds your character, so I wouldn't say it was a disappointment at all," Moncrief said. "You've got to look at the positives of everything. I'm still alive and breathing, so I look at is a positive."

Muschamp is known for having lots of turnover in his first offseason once he takes over so this shouldn't be a shock no matter the name.

Sorry that Moncrief believes there's better circumstances out there.. but the dude had weight issues to play safety and was likely stuck playing out of position. Good luck. Hope he transfers to Louisville

Hey, we said we wanted Muschamp to run off those not willing to work to get better. The more he runs off, the more we can sign come February. I'm patiently waiting for the Kris Frost is transferring thread...

you're never getting that thread so just go ahead and accept it.

Frost will be a draft pick next year whether you agree or not.

If he can start playing with some more aggressiveness, I agree. I think Muschamp will bring out the beast in him.

I hope so. That would mean he has dramatically gotten better than what we've seen the past two seasons.

But he was an "ideal fit"!

Moncrief is a stud but he always been slightly overweight. If he got lean, he would be a stud S but I think his best bet is being a LB at the college level.

He got beat out be FR Tim Irvin with a broken hand so

Also, we are so unbelievably stacked at SAM/Nickel, it isn't a big deal other than I thought he was a wasted talent.

Nickel - Irvin, Ruffin, Markell Boston with guys like Holsey, Stephen Roberts able to fill in as well if we get CB depth

SAM- Jeff Holland, Javy Mitchell with Tre Williams I imagine getting a look too to get him a reason to be on the field

Not true. There is a hard cap to how many you can sign. For us in 2016 as things stand now that's 27 which we are almost projected to sign anyway. It only goes up if a player from the immediate class leaves & an incoming EE or tranfer can take that spot. That would be the 2015 class. Mobcrief is in the 2014 class.

That was his words not Boom's. You could always tell from Boom's comments the DM was not doing well. He flat out said he needs something more physical than DM @ Sam/Nickel.

I'm glad we're weeding out the guys who aren't physical enough. Boom is doing his job

Not to Boom & CLT. They are waiting for Holland to come in to bring the physicality to that spot along w/ Irvin.

Of those guys only Irvin has been mentioned the. The CBs you mentioned have only been talked about at deep safety if needed

Per all reports & Boom himself Tre has been strictly an ILB in the rotation w/ Frosty & Cass.

Is Boom running off players? We all know he can be very assertive, but we are losing some players that we don't have much depth at... I follow AU, but not nearly as close as some of you guys, is there reason for major concern or is he just thining out the herd?

Is this all that terrifying? Aren't most of our secondary depth concerns at CB? Correct me if I'm wrong
