That's funny because some of Fyffe's greatest calls you have no idea what's going on unless you're watching.

Big difference between when he's going nuts because of a play and his play calling in general though. Fyffe was fantastic at giving you and image of what was going on when the plays were being setup and going on.

Rod is pretty poor at that, though he has improved over his early years.

Agreed from everything I can tell. Listening to Rod's calls of 2013 compared to 2004 aren't even close.

Seriously, how hard is it to make a good call when its the Prayer in JH or the K6? Anyone would have done a good job. Where Rod falls short is his normal in game analysis and game calling imo

Olds will say Jim Fyffe was the best ever. They do not realize that Barmblett is the Fyffe of the next generation. I honestly cannot remember a time before Rob.

Well that explains the lack of maturity in some of your post

Absolutely cannot stand to hear Rod call Auburn bball games. He is so negative and gets so down when things are going against us.

THIS.

While I love his football commentary, his basketball calls are fricking awful.

One of the best...if not the best in all of college football.

A below average play-by-play announcer and worse than many current radio announcers. But my guess is you haven't listened to many of those.

But he loves Auburn and we love him. WDE!

I most definitely realize it. And w/ all due respect to those who say otherwise I most certainly can compare them. As has been said Rod gets depressed at times. I don't like that aspect. Jim always remained hopeful unless a game was completely out of hand. I prefer that style.

Both are great AU men & yes Jonesy is correct. Rod is one of the most genuine & likeable people you would ever meet. I have met him numerous times as well.

This may very well be true but the year I became an AU fan was the 1993 tv ban year. I could see everything going on in my mind that year thanks to his calls. He was excellent that year.

It's sad too, I wish the young fans could have experienced his calls live. Listening to Fyffe call the '93 season on the radio with my dad was one of the best memories I have. I like Rob, but I loved Jim. He was Auburn's Vin Scully.

Also, the 2003 usc game was a shutout because we jinxed ourself by the whole stadium practicing his signature call during the pregame for when we scored our first TD

Rod is great, but he is no Jim Fyffe. Jim was the best there was. Both have some excellent in game calls that will go down in AU lore, but overall Jim was a better commentator.

Fyffe could make a game on the radio come alive. To the point where you better pull the frick over. He was that good.

I loved listening to Fyffe on the radio. I honestly don't ever listen to Rod bc I go to all home games and watch most if not all road games. However when Fyffe was around I didn't get to see all the games for one reason or another so I listened to him all the time. Him and Munson were masters of their craft.
