I'm mystified how someone so athletic can go from playing so well against Arkansas last year in the first half to what we saw early this year.

I don't have deep football knowledge, but it just shocked me how far he regressed.

Is it:
A. JJ was never really that talented

B. JJ never developed beyond solid backup QB level

C. Talent around him is lacking

D. CGM failed to tailor play calling to JJ's strengths (whatever they are)

E. Other (please teach me)

Not C or D. I think it's mostly JJ never had the natural instincts it takes to be a full time starter at QB. There were some signs of it last year and the A-day game but, obviously not as bad now that he was the full time starter.

Mostly A and B. C holds true when you look at our receiving corps but isn't the reason JJ doesn't look good. D is also somewhat true but not as much relevant as A and B.

The major problems with saw with Jeremy:
- Technique. He consistently overthrows receivers. No concept of trajectory

-Mentality. We saw a wide-eyed QB at LSU. It's a miracle he regained his composure and helped us win at A&M.

-QB awareness. He stares down receivers and it kills us.

You can argue that 2 of those 3 are teachable (technique and awareness). But at the same time you've got to have a QB that has the ability to learn it and apply it in a game situation. Not sure if we just aren't teaching it well or if Jeremy hasn't been capable of learning and applying.

It is notable how many balls thrown by a 6'5" QB are batted down.

No mental ability to play the position. Doesn't progress through his reads. Can't improvise if things break down. Gets the yips when he throws to an open receiver.

It's weird that he was so dominant against Arkansas last year, and now he can't make any throws except for WR screens.

Just watch how he throws the damn ball. He kicks his left foot out 80% of the time instead of stepping towards the target and following through.

I don't understand how he got this far in his career without anyone correcting it.

Honestly to me, he is just not very smart. He does not have the awarness to read the D quickly. And he is not mentally strong.

That coupled with bs walk-throughs Gus likes to do instead of real practice, you get this result.

WTF did Gus and Yes Man Rhett see in Fall camp to start the season with JJ at qb and Roc at RB?

JJ is not mentally strong enough. He can't read a defense and he has the poise of a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

The hype was just that, hype. People took one half of football and created their own reality as far as JJ's abilities. Unfortunately they didn't bother to take into account his less that stellar A day performances or the fact that most every time Gus brought him in for a play or two in previous years he didn't actually look like a world beater. In fact a lot of times that he was brought in people on here complained that Gus was trying to outsmart himself and instead killed drive momentum.

JJ has a strong arm, but he has incredibly bad fundamentals. His footwork is terrible, which leads to being very inaccurate. It also leads to most of his passes having very little arc or an almost flat trajectory when released.

Other than his arm, he doesn't seem very athletic to me. He has a weird, cumbersome stride when he runs and often times it looks like he is running on his heels.

Part of it, I think, is that the times before that we saw him have "success", the teams we were playing had practiced and game-planned for a whole 'nother QB, that Demi-god and wizard, Nick Marshall. And they had gameplanned for NMs unique skillset.

And then, because of that, JJs performance in those times threw fools gold dust in our eyes IMO.

When teams started practicing and game-planning for (we now know) JJs utterly common and unspecial skillset, well... we got what we've seen.

The ONLY way JJs skillset could have broken away from the mundane was a willingness for him to run the damn ball. And he doesnt have that.

The hype was obviously too much but in my personal opinion, JJ has no heart. He does not have the killer/Winner instinct that it takes to be a winner at what he does.

We saw it some the last couple of years when Nick won the starting job and JJ would play. He looked like he could give a shite. When it started to fall apart for him early this year, he did not have the guts to come out of the hole.

It just what I saw by watching him.

Kid does not have the guts and the , its me against world, attitude that is needed.

JJ was about to quit auburn football after he was pulled out. The level of death threats and more he was receiving required him to have security escorts when he came back to montgomery to see his dad. His dad wouldn't let him quit and that is the only reason we see him in a uniform now.

Wanting to quit when it got hard shows he likes the head strength. He was just not that bright otherwise to be good at the position which sucks because the physical talent is there.

If true, it's pathetic.

We've had shoddy QB play before. No need to kill anybody.

I don't believe this kind of shite. No way people are threatening to kill the QB over poor play. Maybe some dumbass al.com comments, but nothing serious. I certainly don't believe people were coming up to him and threatening him.
