He lined up at Buck, which is basically a 3-4 OLB. Some downs you line up with 1 hand in the dirt and rush the passer.

Not sure where they plan on playing him. No idea how good or not he is in pass coverage. If he's decent then he could play the SAM which in the 4-3 under is basically a 3-4 OLB. If not he might play WDE behind Lawson as a pass rusher

Definitely hope we come up with more packages to set him loose as when he got chances he seemed to do a good job of getting pressure

Will be nice to have someone like Derrick Brown and a healthy Juantavious Johnson.

It is wasting Monty Adams talent outing him a 2 gap NT type role. He just is the only one big and strong enough to take on double teams

Dontavious Russell played well for a freshman. We finally have enough DTs that are big and strong enough to stop the run and have a rotation. If a couple pass rushers step up then this DL will help the LBs out big time and the whole D will be better.

But we're Auburn so all the right people will get injured to derail the season.

And, speaking of young, Gus said this on Wednesday:

quote:

“I thought it was big that we signed the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia,” Malzahn said of the importance of signing Brown.

“I think it’s the first time in school history we did that."

I'm pretty sure Tracy Rocker was the top prospect in Georgia and possibly the country back in the mid-1980's.

And James Brooks was no doubt the top prospect out of the state of Georgia back in 1977 (?).

Again, either some of y'all are really really young or I'm really really old.

(Shut up. )

Russell doesn't get a lot of talk because his job is to get double teams but he impressed me last season as a redshirt freshman. Him, Adams & Lawrence give us a very solid trio. My hope is either Brown or Jackson (preferably both) can give us big production as well. I also think Andrew Williams is coming along. He has worked his butt of since getting here to go from a SDE to a DT and has had time to develop. Hoping he gives us some productive snaps this season

I said it in another thread. My excuses for Garner stop this season. He has loaded up talent on paper up front. Time to see some production. Hoping that will allow our young LBs chances to make plays

In 1983, Auburn had Gerald Robinson at DE (2nd team All-SEC, NFL 1st round draft pick), Kevin Greene (NFL 5th round draft pick and potential NFL HoFer), Doug Smith at DT (1st team All-SEC, NFL 2nd round draft pick), Donnie Humphrey at DT (2nd team All-SEC, NFL 3rd round draft pick), and Dowe Aughtman at NT (1st team All-SEC).

In 1986, Auburn had Aundray Bruce at DE (1st team All-SEC, 1st overall pick in the NFL draft) and Tracy Rocker at DT (1st team All-SEC, NFL 3rd round draft pick). Those two players alone are better players than any player we have on our depth chart in 2016.

In 1987, we still had Bruce and Rocker and we added Nate Hill (2nd team All-SEC).

In 1988, Bruce was gone but we still had Rocker and we added NT Benji Roland (1st team All-SEC).

And the lists above don't even include other top-notch players that didn't receive as much recognition like Harold Hallman (CFL Rookie of the Year), Pig Goff (NFL 4th round pick), Gerald Williams (NFL 2nd round pick), Ben Thomas (NFL 2nd round pick), Lamar Rogers (NFL 2nd round pick), David Rocker (NFL 4th round pick), Jeff Jackson, and Quency Williams.

DE/DT/NT were fricking STACKED in the 1980's. And the OL itself wasn't too far behind.

Nick Fairley and his band of scrubs was better than our 2016 DL.

The Panthers offense > Cardinals offense this year because Cam Newton willed it so.

Did you mean 2015? Because I would give the guys a chance to play first before completely writing them off

Zac Clayton is criminally underrated that year. Go look how many times you would see him run to the sideline to finish plays that year. His role was to take on double teams like Monty last year, only he would give max effort every down.

Blanc was good too. Antoine Carter. Egaue didn't suck yet and played the SDE role good enough when he had other players to rush the passer. Lemonier and Ford off the bench.

in terms of unappreciate i totally agree. Much like Craig Sanders on the 2013 team. I swear on everything, he set the edge better than any defensive end I've seen in an Auburn uniform in the past 10 years. It was an absolute thing of beauty watching Mizzou in the SECCG try to get around the edge and every time get routed back inside.

Honestly I was only joking about the "band of scrubs" comment, just wanted to say band of scrubs. That entire defense in 2010 was criminally underrated and the DL was absolutely dominant. Fairley didn't account for all of those stats on his own

That 2010 defense National Ranks
FEI Efficiency Rating: #8
S&P Efficiency Rating: #17
Rush Yds/Game: #9
Sacks: #13
TFL: #6
