Go to grocer with high quality meats. Purchase filet mignons around 1-1/2 to 2 inches thick, around 8oz each. Salt and pepper or use gunpowder seasoning if you like. Cook on skillet over medium-high heat for around 5 minutes each side (medium rare). Will destroy Longhorn (and be cheaper).

Best steak I've ever had was from Connor's at bridgestreet in Huntsville. Ive eaten at higher end places than that, but steak has never been better than there.

Also, George's steakhouse In muscle Shoals is fantastic.

Yeah, Connor's is reliably good.

haven't read this whole thread....but if anyone hasn't mentioned Hal's in Atlanta as the best steak ever, I'll go ahead and mention that now.

On a related note, this thread reminded me that I have a nice venison steak in the freezer.

The New York strip from there is the best steak I've ever had but I've never tried to cook one at home. Lonestar is one of the worst.

I don't go to high end restaurants and order steak so I can't help with the best places but for a chain restaurant I like Applebee's bourbon st steak.

Like I mentioned before, the best morsel you will ever place upon your palate, is a Lobster Tail from The Chop House in Chicago.

My Mom is a great cook. But, if I were on Death Row, it wouldn't even be a question.

Leave the butter in the fridge, and just let the lobster melt on your tongue like Cotton Candy.

ETA: I have made it two days now, without using all caps.

My house. Dry aged a Prime Rib for a week with sea salt and cracked pepper. Reverse seared to medium rare with ox tail au jus, garlic mashed red potatoes, and button mushrooms and homemade gravy.

I'll do it myself.

I go to my local butcher shop and get a ribeye at least 1 1/2 inches thick and cook it to somewhere between med-rare and medium.

It took 6 pages before anyone asked. We are sadly failing on this board. No wonder we have no QB.

damn...that is literally polar opposite to me. If I go somewhere nice there is almost no chance I'm not ordering their best steak to see how it stacks up. Have tried almost every high end steakhouse in Atlanta and Hal's is the best. Rathbun's is very good. Not a fan of Chops.

I wish I could remember the place in Dallas, but I went there on business once a few years back and mother of God it was good. Best lobster mac n' cheese ever there. Looked like a wine cellar on the inside and was about a mile from the Omni hotel.

I love going places with talented chefs but ordering a steak isn't really experiencing their full talent. I like steak but don't love it, so I'd prefer seeing what is the chef's specialty for the evening

As steaks from family chain restaurants go, Flo's filet ain't bad.

Being in the cattle bidness most of my life, Ive had steaks all over the world -- all good. But I don't really order them when I'm out cause I can cook them better at home. Any man worth his salt can grill a steak better than any restaurant. For me -- its a CAB or prime ribeye, strip, or possibly filet about 1-1.25" thick, hot charcoal fire, salt, bourbon pepper(google Bourbon Barrel Foods), and a bit of garlic. About 5 min per side. Let it rest before cutting into it - amaze your peeps

Tried dry aged and just don't like the flavor.
