Brandon Cox deserves to be mentioned in this thread. Dude beat Alabama like a drum, and cleaned up with the coeds.

If you had clicked the link, you would have seen that BC was listed in the honorable mentions.

Why is Jarrett Stidham mentioned in this thread? Some people just never learn.

We agree! Wonders never cease.

Nick would have been Holloway+, in any Triple Option offense. He was much better passer than Jamel(e), and had more elusiveness IMO.

He would have actually had a better Heisman opp in that era.

I will say that I've never seen anyone run the zone read as well as Marshall. Cam might've been more productive, but I attribute that more to his size. Nick had a sixth sense for when to keep and when to give.

In addition to the fact that Cam ran inside-zone and Marshall ran outside-zone.

You have to consider the era the guy played in. Nick wouldn't be able to do what he did in Sullivan or White's time.

NM can pass. He set the record for passing against Bama.

Craig's two years as a starter (1996-97): 710 pass attempts, 34 TD passes, 23 interceptions, 7.8 yards/attempt, 219 rushes, 207 yards, 12 rushing TDs

Marshall's two years as a starter (2013-14): 532 pass attempts, 34 TD passes, 13 interceptions, 8.5 yards/attempt, 325 rushes, 1866 yards, 23 rushing TDs

It's not even a fair comparison. It's like saying the '57 defense was better than the '88 defense because statistically they were superior. Different times, different systems, different talent.

Dameyune was nowhere near the athlete that Marshall was. Plus I didn't like how DC embarrassed the center on national TV. That's not leadership. That's being a douche.

NM> DC

If you can't see that there's way more in common between systems today and in the late 1990's than systems in the 1980's to the 1950's, then I guess we don't have anything to debate.

I was watching some 2013 highlights over the weekend. Of course, the read option was on a high level....but Marshall & Mason also deserve alot of credit for selling the hand-off exchange so well, moreso than I realized when I saw the games in real time. On many occasions, you could tell they flat-footed the defense for an extra split second, which often was long enough for either of them to do some extra damage. I'm sure their athleticism alone would've still yielded positive results, but there were some great fundamentals at work with those two IMO...
