AUBURN, Alabama - The old Student Activities center at Auburn University is no more, but has given way to a brand new 240,000-square-foot facility known as the Recreation and Wellness Center. Students and faculty got their first look inside today after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The $72 million facility is home to a five-story rock climbing wall, a 45-person hot tub shaped like a tiger paw, and a fitness tower overlooking the sports complexes on campus. According to a press release from the Auburn University Office of Communications, the center also holds the nation's longest indoor running track. The facility also offers eight basketball courts, a PGA golf simulator, racquetball courts, a multi-activity court, outdoor pool and leisure area, fire pit, strength equipment, cardio equipment, weights, circuit training, and various multipurpose rooms.

I haven't been there(in AU) since last year but didn't know they were building this. This is 1000x better than when I was in school. You people still in school better take advantage.

The buildings in that area look great... from the new dorms, to the Arena, to the Wellness center, to the new Athletic Dept Dorm, nutrition center and Parking Structure (for the new dorms. They all blend together. Also in that area is a new state of the art Kinesiology Building it all looks great.. The do need to bulldoze Beard-Eaves.

Agree. If Beard Eaves was turned into another parking deck life would be great.

New parking deck too. Rec and dorms were so late and behind schedule though. Lot of problems. Still not finished with the dorm s. Students paid for all the rec funding though.

I can't stop laughing thinking about college students in a 45-person hot tub. My first year at Auburn was 1983 and the weight room was a joke. It was usable, for sure, but small and worn out. When the new weight room opened up (I'm guessing it was 1984) I was happy. It was awesome and I loved going there all the way until graduation.

These pictures of the new facility are incredible. I wonder how crowded that pool is going to be?
