I keep seeing where media outlets published Malzahn's remarks about Melvin Ray playing in the NFL.
Whether he will or won't can be debated.
I'm curious to know what other players in recent history played for a major league, or in the case of Ray a minor league team, and returned to college to play football and eventually ended up in the NFL.

I have to be honest, but I had no idea he played MLB baseball.

He's actually only played minor league games with two Rockies' affiliates. Hasn't played for any of the Rangers affiliates since the Rangers acquired his rights.
Always thought that was interesting

He hasn't. Russell Wilson was a shitty minor league baseball player. Its comical to see crappy sports media try and talk up his "MLB talent".

I remember a standout receiver in the early 2000s, but cannot think of his name to save my life.

I wouldn't say he was shitty. His .OPS in his first two seasons were respectable for a hitter's first two professional seasons. But you're right, he's nowhere near MLB ready.

Not the same thing, but the QB from the 2010 Clemson game is in the MLB now. Although, he's only played in 19 games total, and only one this year.

Ronny daniels is probably who you're thinking of. Quincy Carter at uga and Drew Henson at UM from what I remember. My man Gabe Gross did the opposite. Lettered in football and later played in the MLB.

As far as Melvin goes, I think he'll get drafted late. He'll have a strong year with JJ at QB.

Drew Henson went from Michigan QB battling it out with Tom Brady to 97th overall draft pick of the Yankees to Dallas Cowboys QB

Did the Clemson QB spend any time in NFL?
I guess I'm trying to figure out those players who played both football and baseball professionally (professionally includes minor leagues)

Kyle Parker was his name. He got drafted but haven't seen or heard anything since.

Melvin Ray will play in the NFL. I expect him to have a good season. Him and JJ had good chemistry against Arkansas last year. He's a good WR, just hasn't had a ton of chances with our offense and being behind Sammie and Duke. Always seems to make a play when he gets the ball though.
