First let me say I think Gus is going to get and deserves another season if this season ends up 5-7. With that said my honest opinion looking forward is if we don't see radical changes next year no worse than 10-2 maybe 9-3 we are looking for another head coach. I hate that would be a scenario because we can't afford the carousel known as auburn head coaching but if we repeat this crap next season that's where we are. If that happens I really hope we open the checkbook and do what a lot of these teams are finally doing (Michigan,Bama, ect) and getting a proven head coach that manages a program well. I'm not sure who this is or would be but imo it has to be this way. We've seen way to many coaching changes in the last ten years. In other words this season = bad memories and :( :( :(. For speculation purposes who would auburn fans go for? (And yes another HC thread) get over it.

Gus has at least 2 more years of cushion. We are not firing Gus next year absent a 3-9 collapse.

Honestly I haven't a clue that's why I asked what people thought. I'm sure a lot of bammers had similar thoughts pre saban.

We have to go back to a duel threat QB, the only way this offense works.

I'm not reading that long run-on sentence.

But the rest of the teams we play are not invincible. We should be competitive in the rest of put games. I think we pull 2 upsets before this season is over.

I realize it's a lot to read grammar nazi lol if we had beat Arkansas today I would agree with you about the upsets maybe we get better maybe not. Just don't see the defense helping enough to pull off those upsets.

Guys, I'm not sure if this has been said yet today in any of the threads but I think we need a running qb to be successful. Defense is close they just need to make a couple more tackles.

Tell me, who are the HCs out there that are on equal footing (and have similar resumes) to Harbaugh in '15 and Saban in '07?

I won't even add the "how much would it take to get them to AU" proviso. Just name another HC who is "proven" and "manages a program well" at the level of those two.

I'll spot you Urb and Bob Stoops. Who else?

Patterson is the only one that instantly comes to mind. I realize he had some bad seasons but as a whole I've been impressed by the job he's done with TCU. As far as equal footing he's not there I realize but I'd still open the checkbook and make him refuse.

This. This team isn't quitting, for the most part isn't a Fulmer Cup contender, and (on paper) is recruiting well. All of that would have to change for Gus to be let go.

The D is a bigger issue than the O, IMO. You aren't going to be able to score 40 every game. There is no reason we should need to score 40 to win games, but that is what is needed for us. I think Gus is finally learning that. Hopefully he puts more emphasis on the D side of the ball in the future.

I agree with the not quitting part for sure we still have a lot f fight and I like that. Recruiting this year has been shaky to say the least. See the non existent recruiting news in the recruiting thread.

Does Gus take the blame for our stone hands receivers today?

Gus is a good coach. He knows how to run a football team. We have problems this year but I don't see any program debilitating problems like we saw in 2012 with Chizik. I do see progress being made to fix the problems ailing us, even if we don't see the fruit of that progress until next season.

Remember Gus is only in year 3. Technically we should still be in the rebuilding phase. We got spoiled with the quick turnaround in 2013 lead by a senior class full of leadership and reared in 2010. Our current senior class are Chizik holdovers who were reared in 2012 and lack any sort of leadership.

Next season is where we can start to honestly judge Gus as a HC. If we still haven't made any progress, then the seat gets hot. But Gus will be here in 2017 at minimum.

Just listened to him post game on al.com. Gus is a good coach I believe that. My biggest problem with him is sometimes his play calling is suspect and he has aggravating tendencies such as repeating plays and sticking with seniority over play making ability. I didn't see much of KJ at the end of the game and was wondering why? I believe he will be around too I just want to get over this hump of every three years we look like crap. It would just be nice to find consistency.
