Not gonna lie this was the weirdest Malzahn press conference in some time. He was actually pretty open & not super secretive on his thought process & what's going on. No idea if this will all work out in the long run but good to know he is at least willing to make a change if he doesn't think something is working. Thought this bit was real interesting when you look at all the facial expressions he has been making over the first few games

quote:

"I felt like I was too negative the first couple of games," Malzahn said. "Living and dying with every play. It was real refreshing for me to be on the opposite end of that where you don’t live and die with every play and you can look ahead and see the big picture."

The talk going around is that Gus was summoned for a meeting by some influencers recently, with the play-calling shift being highly "recommended"...ie: it wasn't really his idea. It was conveyed to him that this was a win-win situation, as if the offense improves under Lashlee then he gets to walk out at the end of the season with positive stock. If the offense continues to fail, then Lashlee can be thrown under the bus as a sacrifice. Either way we're pushing for a new OC (Kendal/Art/Both Briles) to be in place next season.

I agree but the new swap hasn't worked. The question is will he stick with it? I don't know but again I am just happy he is trying something different

Jay G. Tate has more or less confirmed it.

Ya but none of our beat writers have really boldly stated whether it was true or not. PM says that the scapegoating rumors are bs but that Gus probably had a meeting with a booster but then again that's PM. I don't doubt there were some conversations not sure I buy some of the reasoning being thrown around. Either way I think it's time we see whether or not Lashlee is worth anything or not

More likely he went to Lashlee and said "You either get made or broken this season, I am throwing you to the wolves. I will take care of you and get you a new job with a fat severance if you save my arse."

Either way play calling better improve or Gus would still not be safe. If he were to go full Clemson potato against UGA, OM, and UA and lose one badly he could still get bounced. And will his stubborn arse actually stand aside?

I think its a little scary that those retard plays in the Clemson game were all his doing and actually thought that would work.

Who is the booster? That Bill guy from "The Drive" said he knows the name but doesn't want to repeat it because he doesn't know it to be fact.

The only reason he chose print media is because he's a fat slob whose mouth is always full of donuts and cheeseburgers.

Oh and he's a fricking moron.

Yeah not sure that's what this is about. We're still basically doing the same things, just in a little less of a retarded way. This is more about finding a scapegoat if we finish badly.

I just watched the presser and got the impression that Gus had poured a couple of shots of whiskey before he took the podium. He seemed strangely loose and lightened up. Not nearly as much coachspeak.

He is either very relieved about the change in play-calling or he is a man on the way out saying "frick it, going to have fun the rest of the year." Dunno which it is. And with the way AU handles business, there's no way to know.

After all that's happened, especially last off-season, I keep somehow seeing end of season:

- Rhett leaves, Gus takes a few days off on brief hiatus to Area 34
- lots of excitement, speculation, names flying around
- Kendall Briles seen around athletic complex
- Jimmy Sexton rumors everywhere
- 2 days of fans on edge, it's happening .gifs
- Ryan Aplin or Protégé B hired with promises of a 'new direction'

I've just seen it too many times with the teams I follow to conclude otherwise

At least when we do this shite with basketball now, paying Stephen Pearl some $200k/year is worth the cost of Bruce
