His name was linked to the Georgia State opening, but they hired Shawn Elliot.

I think this is good for us in the race for Stidham. While hiring K. Briles would likely ensure JS comes to AU, it's been reported JS and Lashlee have a great relationship.

Also, we still don't know what to make of the fallout from Baylor.

Stidham will digress with Lashlee as his QB coach.

Can't wait

Good. Then he'll be just good enough to take us to championships but not go pro early

If he can't whirlybird do not extend the scholly. If he can whirlybird, he needs to marinate a little behind Cox and see how to run it to perfection. By perfection, I mean throw an interception.

Whether you love Lashlee or not and no offense to GSU, but OC (and DC) at AU (and probably 9 or 10 other SEC schools) > HC at GSU.

Sorry, but it will be a very long time (if ever) before GSU is competitive...spread out downtown campus; recruiting against UGA, GT, AU, UF, Clemson, and traditionally a "no-frills" college so booster money is largely not there. Seems like a good place to go to kill your coaching career.

I believe Lashlee is completely capable of calling great games if left alone by Gus. I think our 6 game win streak this season proves it. We were a healthy QB away from the playoffs. Hopefully Stidham comes in and we have JS, SW and WB for QB depth.

I agree. I was very skeptical of what Lashlee actually brought to the table. When the play calling was given to him, I saw more imagination than I have seen in the last few years. That is what has always made Gus' O so hard to defend. Unpredictability is what has been missing.

Laslee's playcalling is fine... Its the lack of QB development that is the issue. Getting Stidham could quiet that for a year or two. Best case scenario is JS comes in and tears it up... Lashlee parleys that into a HC gif somewhere... Gus hires a new QB coach/OC.

No.

We were a healthy QB away from beating UGa. We were a healthy QB, two healthy RBs and a ton of luck away from the playoffs.

I agree with the rest of the post, though. If SW, KJ and KP are all back for the Sugar Bowl - and it's a big if, given Gustav's track record on 'day to day' injuries - then we should get a good reading on Lashlee's ability to gameplan against a talented-but-not-great defense.

Play calling is one thing but my issue is with Gus and Lashlee's inability to develop QB's.

Stidham may be able to overcome that.

Stidham needs to show up as late as possible.

I wish Lashlee would kill his coaching career.

I'm still not sure that Lashlee's QB development is the problem....Is he the QB coach? Absolutely. But, I still think Gus may not have actually let him control that either....Who knows...

They didn't let a 2L conference champion in the playoff, what makes you think a 3L non conference champion makes it in?

I agree, but for different reasons.

2013 & 2014 - Nick Marshall - zone read QB with unstoppable running game. His passing was "enough" to make the running game work. Either didn't need to develop him as a passer, never called games to develop him as passer, and/or didn't have time because of short stint at AU.
2015 - JJ. To me, this is an anomaly. I think it's classic case of kid buckles under pressure and doesn't have "it" mentally. Sure, there are certain aspects you would think can be corrected from coaching, i.e. staring down receivers, but I don't think any amount of coaching corrects the mental part.
2016 - SW. Once he's allowed to run the offense unrestricted, the kid looks good. He's got some mechanics issues (can be corrected by coaching) and he's not durable (nothing to do with coaching).

Point is, I don't think we can determine if Gus and/or Lashlee are good developers of QBs till someone like Woody starts. Someone who comes in, has time to learn and starts more than one year. If Woody has the same issues as JJ, then we'll know for sure.
