He will also be Co-OC. With less than 4 years coaching experience, he will be assisting with developing the offense as a whole and calling plays. Seems smart.

You guys want Gus to try new things and bring in new ideas. He does that, and now we bitch that the new ideas aren't experienced enough.

Because part of Gus's problem is that he isn't experienced enough in the college game and as a head coach in this league. Surrounding yourself with people who are even less experienced than you like Rhett and Kodi doesn't offer any new perspective. Gus just wants to do things his way or the highway and so we've brought in some yes men who won't ever challenge him.

Which is why I said "assisting". Reading comprehension is wonderful.

Gus just hired an OL coach who has worked with Rich Rod and James Franklin... hasn't worked with Gus in six years.

Ok? Both of them will likely be out of a job next season.

If it fails, we are looking for a new coach next year. I like the way some other posters put it, this is the year for Gus to put up or shut up, and he's going to do it on his terms.

We'll see how it goes.

That's what got him here.

He'll either live or die by it.

Yes he does. You just don't appreciate his perspective that that's OK.

Someone said this. You liked it and now are repeating it a bunch. But what does it really mean?

I've posted on this before but you don't bring in assistants that are a bad fit for what you are trying to do. A coaching staff is a team. You don't line up your offensive lineman out wide because it's challenging. That's a stupid idea.

He literally just saw my post in the other thread then started a new thread. Can we delete this one?

Oh well if true, I am sure they understood the situation when they said yes.

Gus has been friends with Herb Hand a long time. He did a pretty mediocre job at Penn State, but because he's friends with Gus it's ok I guess.

Yes because Gus is the HC and he is who he wanted. Why is it so difficult for people to understand this?

Because these people are tired of Gus. They want something new so their expectation for coaching hires is someone that will come in a fix what they perceive as broken.

But that's not what assistant coaches do They don't come in and change programs. They come in and do what the head coach hires them to do

DyeHardDylan

Everyone here is fine with this year being a put up or shut up year. At least give him his own staff to give him his best shot at saving his job. That way he has no excuses if he fails.
