So finally got a chance last night to watch the LSU/MSU game in it's entirety. Some thoughts after seeing it, also curious what other's thought after seeing that game

- Brandon Harris is better than last season but he still doesn't look like a guy that you want to win the game for you. He made some poor reads/throws early but was bailed out by some really good catches by wideouts

- LF is the beast everyone knows he is. It's pretty simple against LSU, if you can contain LF you can stop this offense. If not, gonna be a long day. My worry is can we hold up in the 4th especially if we are down a few guys

- MSU OL was terrible in 1st half but seemed to click better in 2nd half. Lots of LSU pressure was due to just terrible missed assignments by the Bulldogs

- LSU only played 3 WRs. Diarse, Dural & Dupre. Dural is who scares me of the bunch. He had 2 TDs called back & just looked like a baller

- Lots of 2 TE sets & one of their TEs is 300 lbs. We gonna find out if we can play big man physical defense this season.

- Kendall Beckwith is a monster. Was very impressed with how he filled holes & didn't miss tackles. This game would be a very nice time to actually run some read option so we can keep him on his heels. If he is running downhill will be tough to find yards

- Their secondary is feast or famine imo. All 4 of those guys can make some big time plays but they also got beat. Especially in the intermediate passing game. I think early on we need to work quick slants & outs to give JJ confidence & to loosen up the D

- This DL is not deep. I think MSU gave up on run too early. If we can establish a ground attack early this is the type of game where we can gash them repeatedly in the 4th quarter. Can't get away from the run even if they bottle it up early

- Screens & flares will be there. Would love us to slip Kerryon out of the backfield some & let him catch it in space

Overall I saw a better LSU team from last season but one that doesn't strike me as deep especially on defensive side. We have to hold up against the run. If LF can gash us for 5-6 yds a carry we will be run off the field. We are gonna see lots of those power toss plays & read options early. If we don't stop them then they might just pull an AU 2013 & run 2 plays all game & beat us. For us to win we need to put this game in Harris's hands & make him beat us. He might be able to (considering what we have seen so far out of our defense...) but he has never in his college career been asked to win a game. I want to see if he can do it

Offensively, I think we can move the ball on this defense if JJ doesn't JJ. That's a big if I know but I think the LSU group is a year away from being that elite bunch we saw a few years back. Our OL has to establish itself early. If we can run in between the tackles we can keep D off the field & wear them down.

I know lots on here are on melt mode & I listed a lot of ifs for us in this game & some might think I am a sunshine pumper but I honestly believe we are gonna win this game. JJ looked very good on those last 2 drives against Jax St. Those final series reminded me of MSU in 2013 when Nick got on a roll & lead us back for a win. Now we went down & lost to LSU the next week that year but I still believe this team is more talented than that bunch from top to bottom. If we go out there & completely collapse then I will be diving headfirst into meltland with no hope for the future... But I just feel like this is the type of game AU comes out & wins if anything just to continue the troll that has been this season...

Any other perspectives after watching LSU play for first time?

Stack the box... Our Dline is very thin. Worry about 4th quarter.

Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball, agree with the out routes (JJ seems to throw that well), throw to the dang RB. Then run it some more.

How much better would LSU have been against MSU if they had played against McNeese State?

I still think we win this game. We have to survive the initial surge from LSU.

After that, their defense is scary but does look thin. Hang on until the fourth quarter and we can drive the ball. I want to see more passes to Barber tbh. He seems to have pretty good hands and can help us get some momentum.

We just need to get some pressure on Harris to convince Miles to go ultra conservative.

This, and we have to start HOT and allow JJ to gain confidence.

I think they're going to be gunning for JJ's head in the first quarter to get him rattled. Oline has to start well and play well throughout the game. (hopefully that is including Avery Young if he can get back in the lineup.)

That's the way I see it also. If our DL can control the line of scrimmage, and clog it up between the tackles, it could be a mighty fine day.

I do not think we can really stop LF. However, if we can just keep his rushing numbers to really good v ungodly, we have a good shot.

That's how I feel as well. I doubt we hold him to 40 yds again or whatever it was last season but if we can keep him under 150 I feel good about our chances. Darrell Williams is no slouch either. They have a very solid 1-2 punch. We really need Garrett & Cass to be good to go. I am confident our DTs can hold up more worried about our DEs losing containment & LBs not getting off blocks

I agree with everything you posted.

I also believe we will win if our D is healthy with our key guys back.

We shut him down pretty well last year. Our problems start to arise against the pass.

Everybody talks about the zone read. I really hope that what we are running is not the zone read. If it is, neither Nick nor JJ know how to read the D. Nick was pulling the ball when you could have driven a truck through the hole, and JJ is giving it as the DE and OLB are diving at the RB. If we start calling more QB keepers and keep the front 7 honest I like the possibilities we have with Ricardo stretching horizontal and Duke stretching vertical. Call me crazy but I still believe JJ can be the qb we expected to be. He just needs some help with the play calling to keep the D honest. AND possibly an eye check.

If we have a shot at all this is it.

It's not. Those are pure running plays called. People see the QB fake a run around the end after handing the ball off and automatically assume there was an option for him to keep it.

Have no clue what you are talking about.

Nick Marshall was a goddam MASTER of the zone-read, consistently making the right choice. Did he make the right choice 100% of the time? No, he did not. But that's an impossible task to ask with all the parts moving in split seconds in the back-field and at the line.

But he darned sure read it right the majority of the time.

GTFO.

100% of the time is what a lot of Auburn fans seem to require. If it's below that, they will jump off the fricking cliff. Oh, and every freshman that is a 4 star and up, HAS to start and contribute their first year, or else they are a bust.

In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet. I still have no idea why they don't give Javier Mitchell a shot. Dude may not be as big, but he hits like a truck and flies to the ball.
