I realize these stats include safety and corner blitzes as well LBs making plays. For the most part though they'll show you how bad out dline is.

Where we rank out of 128 teams

Tackles for loss 116th
Sacks 94th

Yes this is a fire RG thread.

Go look how many tackles for loss and sacks Carl Lawson has and where he ranks on the team. He's played one half. It'll make you sick.

It's beyond pitiful... when we get stops on defense it's in spite of our shitty line play.

Garner needs to be gone

Its bad but I think Lawson will be back this week. We won't be elite with him but can't double team Monty in the middle and should help get pressure on 3rd down.I would guess Carl is worth about 3 stops a game.

I love when we can bring alumni back to coach, but I always hate this part of it.

There are probably some teams that have more TFLs than we have TF less than 4 yards.

I bet there aren't many teams that can tackle people forward for more gains than us though. It seems like every other play has one of our guys get drug for 5 yards

None of that is RG fault.

We don't have the DLine talent of those 93 ahead of us.

He has a five star (Adams) playing good and he played at Auburn.

He also got some big DLine recruits to come to UGA when he was there (nevermind they still get those recruits without him).

I think I got all the pro RG fans reasons for keeping him in.

I haven't seen one person who's pro-Garner at this point

I am not one or the other. I am just skeptical that one D-line coach is that different from another. How hard is it to coach the D-line?

IMO, it's more about recruiting. See Lawson for evidence of how much difference a 5 star stud makes. I think I read that RG has coached 6 first rounders in his time -- that's pretty decent and shows he can recruit.

I think unless you are just an absolute freak that it is one of the most coach-able positions. There is so much technique involved in a pass rush that alot of people over look.
I played high school football w raven gray and he went from a guy that tried to just bull or speed rush to a very coordinated player that used his hands etc. when we got an excellent d line coach his junior/senior year. his play was night and day different

It would be easier if you just started every post you make with "I don't know anything about football but..."

So Missouri's DL coach who regularly takes 2*s and puts them in the first 1-3 rounds isn't that different from Rodney Garner whose "4*+" DL gets their lunch money taken every game?

There is a ton of technique and skills that go into DL play. It isn't just being "big and strong"

You're not a good coach it you have to have a 5 star stud to have your position play good. Alot of those DLines ahead of us are using 2 and 3 star guys. Talent is no excuse for RG.

As far 1st rounders, if you have enough talent anyone can eventually get 1st rounders just on their abilities alone.

I am sorry. I just cant buy this thinking anymore. Though it obviously helps to have 5* kids across the board, only one or two teams do that.

I look at teams that have 10 times better DLines than us with a tenth of the talent as far as recruiting goes. We are just not developing them.

We have recruited in the top 15 in "rankings" every year. No reason for us to be this bad

I seriously hope you're trolling and it went over my head but just incase you weren't...

These are some of the teams ahead of us. I'm sure some of these don't even have a 4* on their roster. And before you say they don't play anyone it's not like our schedule has been hard knocks thus far.

Boston College #1
Penn State #2
Mizzou #3
New Mexico #7
Kent State #11
Baylor #13
South Florida #15
Tulane 16
Coloardo State
Washington State Boise
Duke
Northwestern
Pitt
UCF

To give it more credence the only other SEC team ranked past #75 is South Carolina

To top off the kick in the groin, we actually have a ton of star talent on the DL. Which makes the lack of development even worse.

I'm not a fan of constant coaching turnover but I've seen enough of RG to feel at peace with letting him go or move to another position.

I was being sarcastic. Read the end of my post. The pro RG fans were using talent as a reason for the DLine being bad.

I say let Muschamp handle it. If he wants another DL coach, then let him go get one. Move Garner to something else or get rid of him.
