Cliffs dude. Always bring cliffs.

Auburn has slowed its pace on a launch date for significant renovations at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The possibility of starting major renovations in the north end zone in December 2015 appears to be off the table after discussions hit a snag in the design phase in recent weeks, athletics director Jay Jacobs told AL.com last week.

If it's fully funded by ticket sales, frick me running. Aren't our ticket prices the highest ( or one of the highest) in the SEC already? Jacobs always looking out for the fans .. Right. Stickin it to the fans is more like it.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately I violated my own personal rule and read the comment section.

I would rather have a sharp needle to the eye than read al.com comments.

What will be wrong functionally w/ JHS after the scoreboard and sound system update?
I say nothing—I don't see any need for further upgrades after the current are completed.
I do see a need for a renovation. My worry is if we go this route, we'll end up with a brick behemoth that'll look like BDS or the new Kyle Field. Unfortunately for the SEC, the stadium renovations that've taken place in the last 5 years have only caused each to look one in the same. Stadiums should distinguish themselves by their appearance.

I just want this to look better. It doesn't have to be bricked in. Just look better.

If they used a little imagination and painted the steel structure in orange and or blue for example, lit it correctly, it would be interesting as hell especially at night. Christ...... hang some god damn drapes, anything, something
There's a great deal that could be done without spending tens of millions of dollars and still have a huge impact on appearance and atmosphere. Upgrading the amenities inside the stadium is a must though

Dude, if they paid for this with a 30 year bond at 4% (Columbia U got 3.85% in 12), this would be one of the easiest things in the world to finance. Be about $7.7mil/year.
Given the increase in luxury boxes, premium seating and slight overal seating upgrades, it should be pretty easy to fund on ticket sales without adjusting price.
Given how the AD basically throws money away if they have extra on dumb things, they could easily afford it without the increase premium revenue

I have a question and it may be dumb but I don't care..That 31 million that each school just got I sure as heck hope we went ahead and paid off Chizik and company any other coaches still on the pay roll.

No. This is finance not Dave Ramsey personal household budget.
If you owe someone 5 years from now $200,000, you pay in 5 years not today. You could put that $200,000 in treasury bonds in 5 years and come out with $200,000+extra interest $ which is beneficial to you

Favorable financing ok. But Jacobs has a history of increasing prices on the fans regardless of the situation. Be it tickets, parking, tailgating etc. My free football parking in 2013 now costs $30 to $45 per game depending on the opponent. He does it in drips and drabs so it doesn't appear to be too bad but overall the cost of football in particular is getting out of hand. Will I personally stop going to games - no. But I sure know a lot of young families that are now opting to stay home and watching it on tv.
While I'm on my soapbox, remember when he eliminated free soft drinks to the football staff a while back. Little crap like that makes him look like a financial buffoon.

What I am saying is that while the justification would be "to pay for seats" the truth is any raise that is coming is independent of renovations. Even if we scraped everything prices would rise

He needs to start realizing that attendance numbers will stop. Most people don't bring their kids to a lot of game etc which has long term ramifications. The goal should be to get people to spend money on a lot of optional things, not to get in the door.

Bingo. Though, this type of long term thinking is generally absent of most of Jacob's decisions. Lets also not forget that we were top 10 in revenue this past year, yet still managed to be in the hole like $10M. I realize that isn't a huge deal on a singular year, but it seems like our AD has lost money the past 2 or 3 years. Jacobs needs to learn how to prioritize spending. Everything doesn't always have to be bigger and better. We would be just fine settling for better. Would save us a good deal of money for.......bags.

Looks like the problems are design related. Not costs?
Posted on 6/2/15 at 3:59 pm to LanierSpots
When they settle on a design, he said the cost will be funded thru ticket sales. The whole article was a little weird in my opinion. Why announce all this. Kind of makes me think he was trying to stop or slow down the project and trying to save face.

If we could quit paying fricking former coaches, we'd have this beat awhile ago.
Im all for upgrading JHS and I think this monster video board on a stadium that needs work is fricking stupid.

The AD isn't "$10M in the hole." That is just what the books says/expected
Only schools with retarded alumni like Alabama can ask donors for money when they churn a huge profit.Kind of hard to ask for a $1mil when you just made $10mil for example

I realize this, but when we already have some of the highest ticket prices and what not, eventually people will get sick of it. They could at least try and make it looks a little more respectable. If it is all on paper, then just make it look like you can spend what you get, not lose money on what is given to you.
